Send in the clowns

Late Saturday, former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney decried U.S. policy on Libyan state television, saying the "last thing we need to do is spend money on death, destruction and war."

State television is fiercely loyal to Gadhafi, and McKinney's interview was spliced with footage of what appeared to be pro-Gadhafi rallies.

"I think that it's very important that people understand what is happening here," McKinney said in the interview. "And it's important that people all over the world see the truth. And that is why I am here ... to understand the truth."...

Separately, McKinney appeared on state-run Press TV this week in Iran. She was reported to be in Tehran attending the International Conference on Global Alliance Against Terrorism for a Just Peace.

I used to live in Atlanta and Rep. McKinney was on tv rather a lot. I second your assessment of her as a clown.

A couple of comments:

1. She is a former member of congress, so as a private citizen she now has the right to say almost anything to almost anyone. Whether you agree with what she is saying or not, it is her right to say it.

2. Fortunately, the "crime" of sedition has been essentially nonexistent since a 1957 court decision, and prior to that it had not really been used for about 50 years.

3. The US could use a lot more "sedition."

Smells "Carter-esque," but this is occuring during a Democratic Presidency.

My vote is that she's been given "free reign" to go out there and advance a policy/make an a55 out of herself.

Trace the dollars and see who's behind it...then you'll get an idea what's up.

My thought? Someone's behind the money. Her history (what little of it there is) suggests she's not too loose with her own cash, so someone, somewhere is managing her financial affairs for/on these trips.

Or...let the IRS look into the funding/expenses associated w/her little excursions...

And still, we may never know.

I agree, but she can say whatever she likes; and she can say it to whomever and wherever she likes.

Speaking of "morons," if we still had sedition laws, half the teabaggers would be in prison by now.

Quite frankly, I don't think she is such a moron. Let's face it. She may not sing to the same tune as the peanut gallery usually does, however, it is not her fault that the majority of inefficient brain mass in this country doesn't get where she is trying to hint at. Wink wink

More so, to arrogantly call her out as "clown" or "dumb a$$" reflects the rapidly spreading weakliness throughout the population.

She is a genius, no question.

Somewhere I'll bet somebody has compiled a list o McKinneyisms. She has, over the years, proven herself unconstrained by consensual reality.

I remember thinking at one point how nutty things are out in Hollywood. At the time I thought Washington was something totally different, much more serious, better-informed, grounded, etc, etc.

Then, one day I realized there is no difference between Hollywood and Washington at all.

Well, maybe there is ONE important difference, power. There is the tremendous power they wield over all of us.

On the other hand Washington is also pretty powerful . . . .
