any one have a method for verifying the function of the charger? The last thing I want to do is hook it up to the excursion should the need arise and have it kill TWO $120 batteries

Intersting if this works ,buddy had it work for him ,add a total of 2 tabelspoons of epson salt to the battery ,a little bit to each hole ,top off the battery with distilled water if low ,recharge .Your sealed battery of course is not available for this trick .Im guessing the small amount of salt cleans the fins off .

I was able to remove the "sealing" from two "sealed cell" batteries and replenish the fluid with some distilled water. Got at least another year out of both of them. The holes were the same as you'd find on regular batteries. I went down to a local gas station and got two "caps" for each of the batteries and "resealed" them. With a little creative plastic-carving, I got the caps to fit nicely.
When filling any battery, don't fill it to the top...look into each hole and you'll see a "slit" down the wall of the hole...just bring the fluid level up to the BOTTOM of the hole...the slit allows any gas-buildup to exit that particular cell and not spew electrolyte out through the cap itself and eventually all over the place...
