Jebbus is Calling Michelle Bachmann

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann made it clear Friday that she was leaning toward a presidential run, saying on an Iowa public affairs program the she felt a "calling" to seek the Republican nomination.
Bachman repeated her plan to announce her presidential plans next month in Waterloo, Iowa, where she was born and lived as a child before moving to neighboring Minnesota. But it sounded as though her mind was largely made up.
"I've had this calling and tugging on my heart that this is the right thing to do," Bachmann said during a taping of the public television program, "Iowa Press." "People want something new and different and that's one thing I've established with my voting record," she said.
Bachmann said her decision won't be altered by whether other candidates enter the race. There has been a recent flurry of speculation that former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin would seek the nomination, a move that could reduce Bachmann's strength among social conservatives and tea party activists.
"The decision I make is completely unique and unrelated to any other candidate," said Bachmann. Bachmann planned to hold private meetings with pastors, business leaders and elected officials during her Iowa visit, and she was scheduled to speak at a Friday gathering in Davenport. She had been scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a Republican dinner on Thursday in Des Moines, but she was forced to address the audience via video link because a vote in Congress delayed her trip.
Bachmann has made five visits recently to Iowa, where caucuses begin the presidential nominating process. She also has held events in other early nominating states, including New Hampshire and South Carolina. Those events have left her optimistic about a White House run, she said.
"We're coming very close now," said Bachmann. "We're very excited about the progress we've made." Bachmann said fundraising has gone well, and she has hired staff in each of the early nominating states. She added that the one-on-one style of campaigning in Iowa and New Hampshire fit her style, pointing to her success in building grassroots networks of activists.
"We've had great grassroots support and were looking forward to building on that," said Bachmann.

I believe it useful to have people like Bachman front and center and out in the political limelight. Bachman has described herself as a constitutional evangelist, or words to that effect. I hope the media holds her to it. Those on the left who find her politics or beliefs repugnant should be grateful that she wants to adhere to the constitution. The constitution works both ways and it will protect lefties if she is president too.

First she would have to convince me that she understood the COTUS. So far that is not even close to happening.

Personally I don't think she has a chance at the nomination. But there are a lot of evangelicals in the US and she is their voice, or at least one of their voices. I have met her and find her genuine. I also found that that deer in the headlights look on her face is genuine too. Not comforting, but genuine.

Right now the media is giving her attention because no one else is really standing out in the R camp.

The eventual R nominee hasn't been introduced as such, yet.

The Tea Party chapter of the GOP needs to have a candidate with enough delegates at the convention to have some say in the platform.

I know she started the tea party caucus in the house, but I don't think she has a broad enough base to be "the" tea party candidate. The tea party is much more a part of the middle than the main stream media wants to report.

It would be quite the rebuke if she didn't get TP support, after being so closely associate with the brand.

Gone are the GOP days of Bill Buckley- smoking dope out on his sailboat.

This whole Tea Party faction of the GOP turned me away from the party. Hopefully they'll go away.

They are the "Bull Moose Party" of the 21st century, they will do considerable damage to the republicans before they disappear for good.

Good, I hope she gets the nomination. It'll make Obama's re election that much easier. Do the Republicans have any electable candidates yet?

You betcha! Mitt raised $10M just last week, so apparently there are supporters willing to vote with their checkbooks.
