Does the US Have a Spending Problem or a Revenue Problem?

from FactCheck.org

Washington's spending has recently been higher as a percentage of the nation's economic output than at any time since World War II. But by the same measure, Washington's revenues are the lowest in more than 60 years.

So in the end we have to do exactly what we did in CT, which pisses everyone off so you know its pretty decent.

Raise taxes and cut spending.

I "hope" whatever deal is worked out has spending cuts "now" as opposed to mere promises to try and cut something, later.
Repubs are called the stupid party for a reason--they often get snookered by the dems in these negotiations.

thanks for pointing out the obvious - even though few will take notice.

Quotation from Dear Leader 0bama

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

SENATOR BARACK H. OBAMA, MARCH, 2006

A confluence of 3 problems:

1. The immanent debt ceiling abuse, in which both parties pretend that the other is stupid and the one has all of the answers while they play chicken with our lives.
2. Our debt that accrued from too many expenditures over revenues is financed largely by a country that would dance at our funeral.
3. An electorate so mesmerized by party politics that they cannot envision compromise.

Yup. I agree. There is no 'This is it' to point at. It is a knot that will take some time and effort on the part of all to untie.
