Computer Stuff - Privoxy, Bfilter, etc

I'm trying various Filtering Web Proxies for my small LAN at home.

The incoming cable goes to the machine with a 2-stage firewall which then runs to a switch. The rest of the LAN runs off of the switch.

I'm using static (I assign) IP's so no internal DHCP.

I had been using adblocker and flashblock on the individual machines but, even in Chrome some webpages were taking 30 sec to load and loading the CPU.

A 4-core system should not be bogged down by loading a webpage.

So I've been experimenting with putting a filtering web proxy on the incoming box.

I tried Bfilter right out of the box. It's OK and the load on the individual machines when viewing the same troublesome webpages I mention above is improved.

I recall proxomitron from way back but I'm no good with regular expressions and would rather not learn. I've got enough 'on my plate.'

That I know of Bfilter and privoxy are my choices.

I'd very much like to stop CSS pop-ups that are so common.

Any advice/perspective?

Thanks.

.

OK

I'll not post these questions here.

I've encountered some IT folks on OD and thought it might go somewhere.

Live and learn.

SJH, you are assuming something that is unlikely, given the demographic. It's highly likely that the advice you seek will come when people who have a less sedentary life return from their social intercourse.

.

I put this here for the sake of completeness.

Everyone's free to ignore it and let it sink into oblivion.

I'm trying Ad Nubcher and am very, very impressed.

It places a very small load on the CPU, pages load quickly, no setup (though it is highly modifiable) and seems very stable.

The drawback is that it is commercial and I think it is $30/year per machine.

I'm trying the 30 trial.

I'll not mention it again.
