The missing money is probably for black projects.
Ending the wars will save a good chunk, but defense spending creates a lot of jobs in my state so we like it. ![]() What the Navy really needs are more subs from Electric Boat!

The companies have a lot of engineering talent. They can use it to create products for export, rather than weapons of war. Hey, worked well enough for Germany and Japan after 1945. |

weapons of war also get exported. US is the world top weapons exporter. maybe even more than all the rest of the world combined weapons export. will this clasify us as rogue state ?

Yep, and then we have to spend money fighting the people whom we sold said murder weapons to. Screw the defense industry with a pongee stick. If the parasites involved in it end up out on the street, so much the better.

Not necessarily. When you sell small arms that could be a problem but the big high-tech stuff is relatively useless if the U.S cuts off support for such weapons. Look at the state of Irans F-14s or Venezuelas F-16s as good examples.

Bringing home the troops will involve releasing a couple hundred thousand young men into the workforce that is in the midst of a recession.
Many of these young men are highly trained in the violent arts of unconventional warfare. I'm not saying we should keep them fighting an increasingly unpopular war indefinitely. All I'm saying is that we need to think this thing all of the way through. |

1. You close shop? Fine. The Russian govt needs money. Screw you and the horse you rode in on. I'll go buy from the Russians. Now what? 2. If those "parasites" end up on the street, what about the people they employ?

Yes but they are obsolete and don't have the avionics that ours had, which are still obsolete.
Or to put it another way an F22 would blow them out of the air like they were training targets. As would any 5th generation fighter including the latest Chinese and Russian planes.
