An interesting way to explain evolution

Only 250,000 generations ago we were chimps. Now we're mostly chumps. ;)

No, I believe the correct way to say it is that 250,000 generations ago we and chimps had a common ancestor.;)

Ingeneous way of visualizing evolution. I'd prefer to trace myself back to Bonobos.

Those horney apes! They'd rather make love than war!;)

Borat said it best: It goes, woman, goat, donkey and man.

I do not believe that to be correct Tom. Today we have a common ancestor; 250K generations ago we were indistinguishable from each other, meaning we were each other. IE we were chimps and chimps were us, but of course we were neither chimp nor human. At that time one of us went to the other side of the mountain so to speak according to this video and what most evolutionary scientists believe.

Another way to look at this, kinda from the physical, natural world view; forgotten underlying principles waiting to bite back: What goes up must come down. Thank you, very much.

I get a kick out of people who consider it an insult to suggest that we evolved from chimps or anything like chimps.

We did NOT evolve from chimps, well maybe you did.:eek::eek:

Whether it is an insult or not who cares. You cannot fight science. People did not like the idea that the earth was not the center of the universe/solar system. It's not and they just had to get over it. We have a common ancestor with primates. That's just the way it is. A few whack jobs not believing it does not negate the facts.

I didn't mean to suggest that we evolved from chimps. I just think it's funny when people get offended when someone says that we did. I have not studied evolution since high school biology class (1972-73 school year!), although I read the occasional article now and then. My understanding is that we did not evolve from chimps, but we share a common ancestor. Or something like that.

It would not bother me in the least to learn that we did evolve from chimps. Would it bother you? If so, why?

In the religious view, especially jewish, christian and muslim, humans are a special creation, we are "other" than the rest of nature. The rest of nature was put here by god for our benefit. What a happy way of seeing things. Since we're outside and not a part of nature, we can exploit it all we want and yet don't have to take responsibility for anything that happens to it.

It's sure fire proof that the religion developed after human stopped being hunter gatherers and started being farmers/herders. It is the ideology of farmers/herders.
