I was hoping somebody here might know that.

I love that car. I got a ride in one just like it many moons ago. It was at night and we were on a highway out in the middle of nowhere, so it was hard to tell how fast we were going. We passed a few cars like they were standing still, so I asked how fast we were going. I was shocked when the driver told me that we were traveling somewhere north of 90 mph. That was my first experience with a nice, German sedan.

I plan to keep my 1999 528i until it becomes an old classic like the one in that ad.

On the other hand, that car might be a total money pit, for all I know. I'm not really up to speed on that.

I'm reading good things about the reliability and longevity of that particular car. Might be academic at this point. The guy hasn't answered my email.

I don't recall any 5-series BMW being designated a sport until the E39 series came along 20 years later than the one in the ad.

In the seller's mind maybe manual trans=sport

I probably would prefer the 535i from the end of the model run.

Back in 1990 the realtor that sold me my first San Francisco property drove one of these, my family got to ride in it as well as me.

It had somewhere north of 380,000 miles on it I believe she said. She told me she loved it and would never get rid of it.

Cars like this are plying the roads of iran and elsewhere to this day where they are highly cherished.

I think they look great even today..

I haven't heard from the guy yet and wonder why he didn't include a front end pic, but the DBs on CL stopped surprising me a long time ago. We shall see.

That's what I'm thinking too, 'specially as it's a sedan. I think there was a 2dr. model too.

Jim B., I think I read on wiki that there was a plant in Iran and they built lots of them.

That body style is the next after the one that included my seventy four bavaria. As I remember there is not a lot of difference mechanically except this model had fuel injection and mine a carb. Not an insignificant difference. This car in excellent condition should run about a hundred fifteen or twenty and at that speed you won't feel unsafe to take a hand off the wheel and adjust the radio. Sweet handling and sweet riding cars. Pretty quick too. Not very good fuel economy though compared to modern cars. You will have trouble getting much better than the low twenties on the highway.

They are not mb and although the engines are very robust nothing else on them comes close to the durability of a mb in my experience.

Is there a mb that might compare ? My experience is limited to exactly one W123 diesel, which I sorely miss by the way. Thinking about gassers now though...
