Back then, you could fill up your tank with pocket change!

You could pick up a beater for $500 and still fix it yourself (without a scan tool or laptop). Earl Sheib could paint it for $39.95!

Couldn't tell ya; I was raised where I have to work, fill my tank and maintain the car. None of my friends have to do this, and complain when their parents won't fill up the tank in their econoboxes.

The parents pay the insurance, as gasoline in a 560SEL is suffering enough when you only make 9.25 an hour, with a 60 mile round trip commute...

My kid bought his Subaru. He pays for gas and now that he's 18 and the car is in his name, insurance too. He is the only one of his circle of friends who has to cover his own transportation costs. He thinks it's funny when they whine about not getting enough gas money from daddy. These are college age people. Legal adults. Good grief.
Whatever happened to parents who don't coddle their kids?

It appears the year 2000 or so was the end of them.

Whatever happened to kids delivering afternoon newspapers or going door to door to cut the neighbors grass for a few bucks? I had a route when i was a kid, and was able to buy my own bike, a Redline, and then start saving for my first car...a $500 beater.

Kids today don't have the ability to make money after school, and they are leaving the nest with an attitude that mom and dad will pay for them, since they did it all their lives.
