http://www.slate.com/articles/business/the_juice/2015/06/peter_davidson_steps_down_from_energy_department_his_loan_program_was_responsible.html

Despite Solyndra, the program turned a profit.

The numbers are certainly far better than that. It looks like a very solid portfolio of loans to revenue-generating projects that have served as a catalyst for a vast new industry. And the program has not exhausted its authority. Since the beginning of 2014, it has approved $6.5 billion in loan guarantees to a nuclear project in Georgia and granted a conditional commitment to Alcoa for $259 million to help finance its efforts to use aluminum in autos.

Might I ask what the point is? That under certain circumstances that I deem necessary, govt intervention is good even though due diligence gives way to politics?

Solyndra

Quote:
On September 8, 2011, Solyndra was raided by the FBI investigating the company.[28]

In September 2011, federal agents visited the homes of Brian Harrison, the company's CEO, and Chris Gronet, the company's founder, to examine computer files and documents.[29] Also, in September 2011, the US Department of the Treasury launched an investigation.[30]

On September 29, 2011, a US Department of the Treasury official confirmed that the criminal probe of Solyndra is focused on whether the company and its officers misrepresented the firm’s finances to the government in seeking the loan or engaged in accounting fraud.[31]

On October 7, 2011, newly revealed emails showed that the Obama administration had concerns about the legality of the Department of Energy's loan restructuring plan and warned OMB director Jeffrey D. Zients that the plan should be cleared with the Department of Justice first, which the Department of Energy had not done. The emails also revealed that as early as August 2009, an aide to then-White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had asked a Department of Energy official if he could discuss any concerns among the investment community about Solyndra but that the official dismissed the idea that Solyndra had financial problems.
Question: Your kid gets busted for shoplifting and you punish him. A year later, you find out he has been doing it since but successfully and not gotten caught by store security. Should you:

a. discipline him (by whatever means you consider discipline WITHIN REASON)
b. "Atta Boy". Good that you haven't gotten busted since that first time

I think Republicans have to keep this Solyndra thing before the public because so many people know so little about it. As long as Conservatives continue to trust the right wing media for the story on this they will crave the attention it brings to their favorite cause of hating on Obama.

But what if they ever wake up to the fact that the loan was suggested and approved by the G. W. Bush administration? All Obama's people had to do with it was to write the check that Bush had already locked them into writing during the last days of Bush's administration.

I think their reaction would be something like...... Look! A squirrel!

Yes we know all Republicans are evil and all Democrats are good so can we simply dispense with the shilling and get down to the issue?

Well, if you are going to put it that way, we need to also give Bush credit for the auto bailout. Why don't we hear that from you?

Fortunately, while I have some support for both side's IDEAS, I can simply put it so you can understand. When the referee is also a player, it becomes bad. Keep the govt out of this and we might be able to skip some of the FEIGNED outrage from congress about the AIG Bonus "OUTRAGE".

Somehow I doubt Larry will remember this fact.

Nor will you remember the fact that Solyndra was an example of not just an oversight but a political manipulation. Would YOU feel comfortable with the Referee being a player in the game as well?

Unlike you, I don't have a way to try deflect a question and make it sound good so I have to answer as truthfully as possible.
