Mac question (easy)

I am thinking of buying a Mac after owning a PC for years.

Question is....will all my PC files be read by the Mac without issue?

I am concerned about my Excel and Word files, TurboTax data, pictures, music.

My PC of 5 years is beginning to show signs of impending doom.

It is starting to restart in the middle of the night and gets stuck when it tries to boot up.

Pics and Music won't be an issue. Turbo Tax transfer how-to is here:

http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/Copy-of-Return/How-do-I-transfer-my-tax-return-from-Windows-to-Mac-/GEN12225.html

Here's some information on migrating Office files from PC to Mac. You will have to buy Office for Macintosh first.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2518?viewlocale=en_US

The only experience I have with this is moving Word Files. Sometimes fonts and formatting don't survive the process and have to be redone. I think it might depend on how the files were originally saved on the PC, but don't know for sure. I've noticed this a few times when the wife brings something home she did at work on a PC and wants to work on at home. Not a huge issue.

I frequently bring work from my job (PC only) home to play with here (Mac only). I have had insurmountable issues with graphics generated by ESRI and Erdas but no problems with Microsoft Office generated files.

The current version of MS Office uses the same file format for Mac and PC.

I don't have that one. Mine's 04 I think. How does the new Office for Mac do on older PC generated files?

You mean office 2003? Office Mac works fine with those files, and you can get a plugin for '03 to read the newer files.

If a person is already PC literate I do not know why you'd switch to a MAC.

comparing Macs and PC's is like comparing Democrats and Republicans, no matter how you are pursuaded you already know what you want......

I'm not trying to say one is better, just if you already know how to use one that it would be easier to continue.

Of course when I started Macs were MUCH more expensive and you could not build your own, get many programs or many add-on cards. That's all changed (I think).
