That is a correct and not distorted statement of her sentiment.

AGAIN, very well and accurately stated.

Nice try at re-writing history.
So what you're saying is that nobody either knew the contents of the bill, or even wanted anyone to know that, but pass it anyway. And were supposed to have something other than contempt for these idiots?

Yes, that's exactly what they did. You are right, it's difficult not to have contempt for the whole bunch of idiots in Congress on both sides of the aisle. The inmates are running the asylum.

Really? You base your contempt on what sjh says? No offense to sjh, but you seem smart enough to learn the facts for yourself.

Actually, I don't think the discussion started with Pelosi's statement. I think she make her statement near the very end of the process, just before the vote. That aside, the changes you keep making your depiction of Pelosi's statements are getting you closer and closer to the truth. A few more posts and maybe you will get all the way there.

That's right! Her statement was very close to the point of voting for it. That's why she MADE the statement, she was railroading them into voting for something that they had yet to read.

Just that much more evidence of the people in congress being a bunch of IDIOTS! We are taught from the time we're kids or certainly at least young adults, that we should NEVER sign anything that we don't read first. It's not difficult to see that this should also apply to something that we will vote on.

They all should be run out of town on a rail. Her for proposing such a preposterous thing as voting on it before you know what's in it, and the rest of them for being stupid enough to vote on it! All of them are crooked, self centered, idiots on both sides of the aisle.

First off. I happen to think that the US health care system is crap and needs radical change. The idea that the supposededly most advanced country on the planet is unable to provide the worlds leading health care for it's citizenry independently of the vagaries of industry and the necessity of massive incomes or bankruptcy is preposterous.

However, the idea that it's acceptable to stuff a gigantic piece of legislation thru government without anyone knowing what's in it in an ideologically driven pretense of "fixiing" the problem is even more so. I have not read the bill, neither have you. It's not possible to read it in any meaningful way given how huge it is which is why so many of the supposed "leaders" have no clue what all it's ramifications are. It is inexcusable to pretend that government can function effectively like that which is part of the reason Washington is in the mess it's in. That is a piss poor piece of work on the part of the clowns who dreamed up this bill and rammed it thru.

- Peter.

I get the last word? Sweet. In that case, let's close with a great quote from Robert Frost:
Quote:
A liberal is a man too broad-minded to take his own side in a quarrel.
Not directly on point, but not totally irrelevant, either.

Hey! sjh said I get the last word here.

Your post is entirely reasonable, except I would not single out the health care bill. There is no way Congress could read every bill it passes. It's scary, but unavoidable, IMHO.

Unfortunately, elections thee days seem to be a lot like choosing teams on the play ground in elementary school. Except the other team got to pick all their players first. All we have left is those kids that nobody else wanted. Often times it seems we're happy just to get a player who can actually hit the ball, never mind getting a run . . .

Then they need to SLOW DOWN! Passing fewer bills would be a GOOD thing! Every one of these idiots should read EVERY WORD of EVERY BILL, before voting on it! Anything else is national suicide.

Didn't Cain supposedly say in one of his speeches or interviews that he would veto any bill that was longer than three pages? I heard him criticized for saying it, at least. After I thought about it, I thought maybe that's not so crazy after all. Think of all the crap that gets foisted upon the American public because it was buried deep within some fairly reasonable-sounding Congressional bill.

Yes, the media attacks alone in many cases are enough to keep many good people out of politics.

Herman Cain doesn't have much of a chance of being President, but if he were to succeed, it will drive him nuts working with such incompetents. Within a few months he would know the meaning of the old saying "be careful what you ask for, you might get it."

He is a proven go getter. It's been a long time since anyone with drive, intelligence and an aggressive attitude toward doing a job well has taken up residency in the Whitehouse.

I voted for Dubya. I voted for Obama. I'd love to have somebody decent to vote for for a change . . .

That's what Pork Barrel Politics is all about. They bury everything under the Sun in those bills. I'm sure that his three page comment was simply a figure of speech. What he was saying was that these 2,000 page bills have got to go.

The fact that he's a Washington outsider and can see the inefficiencies, is one of the things that makes him a great candidate. He not only can see the inefficiencies, but has a very long track record of dealing with such things and correcting them.
