Another poster here sends me funny emails everyday, and I enjoy them.

I use multiple email addresses and check each one every day...my employer pretty much operates at least 60% through email, my school expects us to check our email at least once a day. Chances are its a junk mail address and/or an unimportant address.

I think people that do that are usually known as "retired".

I have a special place for those unsolicited e-mails.

I think must everybody is in SOMEONE's address list that forwards a bunch of stuff most every day. The sad thing is when it is someone like a relative that you would really enjoy having a meaningful correspondence, but you get all the junk instead.

The forwards are really a separate issue. I do intensely dislike them. What's really galling though is not being able to reach someone by email when they've given you an address.

I'm retired. I don't forward anything that was forwarded to me. Mac OS' mail program allows you to set up mail rules. I have a rule set up to auto reply to anything with [FW] in the subject line, and it's not a nice reply. The rule further moves the forward to the trash. The easiest way to reach me is by email. I just don't get people who give out email addresses and then never check them.

Made the fatal mistake giving out my e-mail address to a minister and his wife in order to accomodate a brief business transaction with them.

Since then, I got nothing but chain-letter type e-mails from them!

I ended up flagging them as SPAM...

I never check my email because the phone notifies me when I get one. I forward a lot of stuff for work so I am glad I dont email you because I would get a nasty auto reply from you.

Just curious, what's the age bracket for the recipient in question?

While just about everyone has an email address these days, I know a lot of my younger clients (
Re: FW: junk email, my father is the worst offender. Ironically, he always complains about all of the junk email he receives.

You got it. It's mostly the young who are at fault. Texting is king, email is for the unhip apparently. I've discovered that the only individuals who can be counted on to answer emails in a timely fashion are those with smart phones.
I'm starting to notice lots of craigslist ads with "text me at .......I don't check emails." Guess I'd better get a newer phone, but if I do that I'll have to remember to keep it charged and actually know where it is at any given time. What a PITA.

At 41, I'm dealing with folks a generation ahead of me and a generation behind me so it hasn't been too hard to adapt as communication has evolved (or devolved depending on perspective). Some of my sales reps. are in their 50's, adaptation has been much more difficult but they have. One of them is in their 70's and refuses to learn how to use a computer never mind email. He hits his goals so I can live with him just having a phone-only cellphone and a fax machine.

As far as phones go, I'm not sure any of them are phone-only anymore. They're just about all text capable now. Except the real PITA is using one with combination alpha-numeric keys only (as opposed to a real or virtual QWERTY keypad).

While not to the extent that you do on your ranch, I do spend a fair amount of time on equipment, climbing around construction sites and walking through pasture/fields. I hate having my phone in my pocket, too. You can find some pretty heavy duty belt holsters now that keep them well protected from the elements (and my clumsiness) and out of the way. Charging is pretty much on you, though.
