It sometimes amazes me when the first thing ppl ask me in regards to their "service" on their MB and BMW is how much is it going to cost. Had a lady ask me the other day in regards to a late model 528i. I told her the oil alone is going to run $40. I guess she has been reading about the $19.99 oil changes at the quick lube place. If they can't afford to maintain these nice, expensive new cars by the book then they should be driving a Honda. I am of the opinion that you can get any MB, BMW, Honda (just to name a few) to a million miles if you have a proper maintence procedure.

Wow. I always wanted to have a million mile car. I was talking to some people once and they were talking about their recent purchase of a lexus. I said what about benz? They told me they looked at the C class but said that the lexus service charges were about $20 cheaper so thats why they went with the lexus.

Our 1998 Accord has about 165,000 miles, so it's too early to start bragging about it. Even so, the build quality on that car is probably the best of any car I've owned. It also has the best dashboard design of any car I've owned, much better than my Benz or BMW.

My friend has a Prius, parts keep falling off and the build quality is the worst of any car I have ever seen hands down.

Here is the funny thing, he insists that Toyota is #1 in quality. Which is not true. But there are different ways to look into "quality". If measured by mechanics alone, they probably do very well. But that is NOT "build" quality, thats mechanical. The "build" quality, like I said, is a joke. He bough the car new. There is a rattle on the passenger side by the windshield. He took it in twice, they still cent solve it. So he does not drive between 50 and 63 mph if he can avoid it! lol

They made a buying decision for a luxury class automobile over twenty bucks?? It's true, Mercedes service is not inexpensive, they are both great cars however it depends which car someone wants. Lexus has certainly made a name for themselves in the marketplace which turns up the heat on Mercedes. In the end, the consumer wins.

It is cheap compared to say a Ferrari though.

I have always felt that at about 200k miles on an average honda or toyota. The requirements for more parts and decreasing reliability are going to raise their heads.

A car on constant highway use may be a lot better and go a lot further before this occurs though. Eighty percent of our cars usage is spent very locally. All these very short trips are hard on them.

What may suprise some is many components that are maintenance items in other cars are lifetime components in honda. This suprised me and does factor into more value and less service bills.

Resulting in more money in your pocket over the long haul in my opinion. Especially with the greater retained resale value. Really people should think about these things before deciding what to purchase.

No I do not and never have owned a honda but some members of my family do and I have watched. I suspect we are going to try one.

Locally hyundai are grabbing a large segment of the market. I have worked on a few mid two thousand models. Not really all that impressed with the lack of attention to detail in the engineering and execution in many areas.

I've got 2k on my VW...998,000 to go!

I'm of the opinion that ANY car will go a million miles if you throw enough money at it. Some will do it more easily than others. The most miles I've ever personally seen on a car was 376,000 on a Toyota Camry. Others I've seen past the 300k mark were a bunch of Crown Vics that had been police cars and then taxis, several Benzes including a gasser, a couple Subarus, a Honda Civic, a Porsche 912, and a Chevy Cavalier.

My 86 Toyota pickup had almost 400K on it when I sold it 7 years ago. It's still on the road with the original motor. The one I just bought has 226K, but has a new head, valves etc. so I guess that doesn't count. My wife's Element has 140K, doesn't leak or burn any oil and runs like a swiss watch. She does regular dealer maintenance. I figure it's good for at least another 150K.
