You did a good job at providing the executive summary.

Haven't read all the posts and maybe it's already been suggested but here's my 2 cents:

How 'bout just creating an all-politics forum? That way all the political leaning people (which sometimes include me) can duke it out there and not bother people who just want the OD to be what it should be: friendly.

You guys can just delete anything you want and solve all your issues by removing them without thought / deliberation.
X2
It also worked for alt fuels in DD.
I bet if we had a snake pit, many of those that do the complaining would be regular posters in there.
Best make it a members only forum so only logged on members can access it.

On other forums I am a member of the mods do a damn good job and order is never an issue. If a thread is going out of line they step in. I'f it cannot saved its closed no questions asked.

Our mods here are doing a great job but some members here try to push the limit and bend the rules. Which is something I will not stand for. I've been a member for 6 years. Have been banned twice( a week or two each time) and know how to deal with the immature and thick headed.

Please don't let this forum become like Miata.net, where the sissy-ass mods delete anything remotely smelling of politics, criticism of them, or that's rated beyond "PG." Ugh. Walled gardens suck.

Sissy-ass mods (LMAO!)

I don't think that's a problem here. There will never be unanimity among members. At any given moment a few will be in a snit over some bias or other. I'll let you in on a little-know fact: Mods are HUMAN! Yes, it is true. Of course they are biased. That is part of being human. We are what we are. But in my opinion, the modulation has been pretty good. I got my infractions for my snide-a$$ed remarks to some folks who obviously (and admittedly) have real medico-psycho inconveniences. How much forbearance one gives a certifiable nut is a judgment call. As is a (somewhat) normal person's peccadilloes. Anybody with balls enough to have strong beliefs and a willingness to express them will cross the line. It is inevitable. It's up to to the moderators to establish tolerance limits. It's up to us not to push the limits too often.

Judging by the banned status under local2edy's name the problem has been solved, or is he just posing like panzzer?

I understand the idea but I guess I just do not see the point.

I can easily go through the thread titles in OD and pick out which ones are political and which ones are not. Having all the political threads in one location just makes them easier for me to find. I still have to click on the thread to enter it. If someone does not wish to participate in a political thread or a thread of partially clad women then they need not click on the thread to enter. Locating all such threads in one location does not change that requirement. The same people who participate now will continue to do so.

This is not a location issue, it's a self control issue. Relocating the threads will not change anything. I like arguing about politics and will search them out. So will all the others who participate in them.

I lost it once and it was triggered by BB. I looked at my post and knew before I hit submit that I would get a infraction. Never had one before and I knew you had to get a few before you got punted so I hit submit. He was and is a jerk IMO (yea I said it, hit me with an infraction if you must) and as far as I am concerned, his post had it coming. If you do not know when you are crossing the line in this place you are not too bright and others will point that out for you if you are not up to the task.

I honestly do not understand what all the fuss is about. This is not a democracy. Pelican owns the web site and they are the ones who now make the rules. We do not get to vote on them. You are free to voice your opinion and they are free to tell you to pound sand. You opinion is not equal to their opinion. The mod work for them. They select who the mods are. That also is not up for a vote. Our opinion on the mods is not equal to their opinion. If you do not like the way they run the forums, there is an entire web out there at your disposal. Don't let the server kick you in the ass on the way out. Not your rules, not your house. We are here by invitation. You may feel bias toward you, tuff crap. Deal with it or leave.

Reading some of these post is like listening to grade schoolers
"Johnny is touching me......."
"Johnny did it first ..........."
"Johnny did it why can't I...."

Guess what? I am pretty sure no one gives a crap. Some here have figured that this forum is not for them and have left on their own. Others have been escorted off by security. Perhaps some of you may wish to do the same if you are not happy. I suspect you will not be missed.

We are guest here. Act like it.

Edit:
sfloriII, none of this was directed at you except the first sentence.

Posting up partisan political stuff is just an extension of the same tribalism we see with sports or school rivalries; it's all part of human nature. Trying to ban or corral these types of threads is addressing the wrong issue. Focus on the nature and intent of posting behavior, to weed out the personal attacks and thread-jackery that feeds on itself to produce less than productive vitriol is probably your best course of action. Personally, I prefer the method used over at BW. Mods use an informal infraction system, whereby they reach out to offending members and provide warnings that can lead to more dire measures if folks don't meet clearly spelled out behavioral expectations. Bannings are fairly rare and judiciously doled out...hell, I've been banned over here more than I've played a role in banning anyone over there. It's not perfect, it's messy and it frequently pisses everyone off, but I think it works about the best I've seen in a model that attempts to let folks have mostly free exchanges with minimal intrusions from referees. YMMV
