The front end view looks like a hodge-poge of competing design students cues all tossed together

I was very impressed with the velociter, I just couldn't live with the lack of power. Even if my GTI had 100 less HP I would still have bought it over the Hyudnai though. Hyundais have never got my blood pumping.

The site says the design is inspired by motorcycle styling....

Personally, I think that all passenger cars with less than 8 seats should be legally limited to 150 hp. Why? So automakers would start trimming the freakin' weight -- it's inexcusable that many "economy" sedans are now in the 3000-4000 lb weight range.

How is it inexcusable? Do you have any idea why sedans weigh so much nowadays or was this a knee jerk?

Because the nancie-boys and frou-frou bints that buy them are so concerned about NVH (zOMG, can't even have a bit of road noise!), safety (as if the world isn't overpopulated enough), and are too f***ing obese to move their own seats, so they need 13-way power electric chairs.

Plus the horsepower wars are a vicious cycle. Need more HP to push all that pigfat around. So you need heavier halfshafts, beefier transmission, bigger brakes, stronger suspension to handle that torque. More pigfat. More HP.

Colin Chapman should rise up out of his grave and club the designers of modern cars in the nose. As well as the average car buyer.

As for government regulations, hopefully this will become a moot point when Washington spends themselves into bankruptcy and won't have money to regulate anything other than their own urine flow.

Limit to 150 hp. Raise gas prices to $10/gal. Let everything follow from there

PS - next new car will be either an FT-86 or FIAT 500.

The FT-86 is remarkable in its light weight, I'd love to see the engineering behind it. Aside from that I'll keep my 5 star crash safety and direct injection (good mileage and hp) as a trade off. I don't mind as long as the cars don't feel heavy. My old Dodge Stealth was remarkably fast for its size (about 3500lbs) and a lot of fun to drive. Unfortunately you felt the weight in hard corners where you would want to push it. Trade off was that the thing was built like an absolute tank and saved me from more serious injury in a bad accident. Other guy wasn't so lucky. Having seen both sides of the coin, I'll gladly take my safety and well being. Some cars blend the two well, notably the GTI, Mazdaspeed 3, and presumably the BRZ/FR-S.

Yes! I hate all the stupid stuff they put in modern cars.

Then you end up with some barge that has 400+ horsepower and still gets beaten around a track by a sub-200 horsepower Lotus.

Well said.

Consider the effects of the .gov going flat broke. If it happens it won't be pretty. I do wish they'd allow manufacturers to build light and simple cars.

Sorry, still a believer in the free market. I can't support horsepower restrictions.

we test drove a Hyundai when we were looking, they bragged about the front seats but we always have a passenger or two, the rear seats were a little over and inch thick and might has well been a lawn chair. the doors were tinny and lacked any semblance of a quality feel.
