To all the W140 naysayers: 336,000 miles 1997 S600
|
My mistake. 366,000 miles.
|
Rare beast, especially with park distance control.
Looks to have a european delivery badge on the grille. |
I remember reading about an s500 with 452k on the clock in the MBCA magazine. I know a guy who has an S500 and he says its the best car he ever owned.
|
Wonder what the mechanical damage is?

For $500 I might buy it just as a curiosity. I don't see from a parts standpoint how you can recover enough to justify the outlay. |

That being said, the customers who would procure said parts and repair said vehicle themselves might be few and far between. Clearly, you're not selling used parts to any repair shop. Like any other business, if you are in it, you can make money with it if you run it well................ |

I very good friend of mine owns a dismantler specializing in MBs and imports. Interiors seldom sell, and don't take long to rot away while sitting in the yard. The big sellers are secondary electrical components, transmissions, motors, body panels, and suspension bits. Its hard to have much confidence in the first 3 with 366,000 miles and not being able to run test them. The only value I see is in the body, $600 for the front clip as a package or maybe twice that if its parted out individually, $600 or the rear bumper and trunk. Doors $300 a piece. So there is the opportunity at the current price to double up just selling the body, but there's the effort involved of pulling the parts and having to sit on them until they are needed. Since most MBs of this age are totaled rather than repaired, there's not going to be a huge demand for body parts. I would love to see the service history on this one too. My guess is its as thick as a phone book. Its probably the highest mileage S600 in existence. |
I have never been around a V12.... but kudos for the MB 12 making it that long. I'm guessing a Jag would not even had made it to 100K.
I dont see a parts car, I see a V12 beater. Get it running, if it doesnt already, and have fun with it. If someone could get it for $500, it would be sweet! "I bet my $500 V12 is faster than your $50k luxury KIA" |
Someone has one of these advertised in the Tulsa World for $7,900. It is a 1992.
If you figure they will get $7,500 for it and it cost $130,000 new.... $130000 - 7500=$122,500 deprec divided by 19 years = $6,447 per year or $537 a month to drive the thing. I don't know.... The initial cost might not be so bad if you live long enough to drive until you get your money's worth. And if you can write it off as a business expense....... |
