I spent several hours on the phone with various people yesterday. Ultimately the delivery company was holding fast to delivering on Monday. I finally told the manager at HD that I wanted my stove by the weekend or he was going to lose the sale. He called late in the afternoon to say he'd arranged for Saturday delivery. I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I only patronize the Deep Homo out of desperation, and then only if I can take what I need off the shelf and walk out with it. I have not heard of one incident where they delivered ANYTHING when promised. I currently have a customer who ordered flooring from them, and it is now going on 2 months past the promised delivery date! In the meantime they can't move into their new house and have to rent! I have more stories about incidents like this than I have time to type, but I think you get the picture.

After all, every one of their representations was an inducement for you to do business with them. Ultimately I think the latter will win out.

[QUOTE=elchivito;2847080I guess I'm kicking myself here as much as HD. I don't like anything about that place and never have. But they beat the best price I could find on this range by 10%, along with free delivery and take away, which is important when you live out in the sticks like I do. I went cheap, what did I expect?[/QUOTE]
All the Home Depots that I have used in the Detroit area are populated by inefficient, incompetent people who have screwed up every single order I gave them as I helped people build three garages this year, then refurbish a boat house. I went to the one in Fenton, Michigan, about 40 miles out of town and it's like a different country. And before anyone says anything, it's an integrated community with whites, blacks, Hispanics et al., and everyone just knows what the hell they are doing. One retired electrician who works in (guess!) Electrical has periodically told me not to do things the way I wanted, because they were more expensive and complicated, and would be no safer. He carries a copy of the updated national Electric Code in this apron! The guys at other locations don't even know where things are in their store. I am seriously thinking of going to work there in the summer after I retire for a year or two. Part-time, it could be fun! I postpone my purchases until I am out there and load up the van.

About 20 years ago I was in a HD in Jax. Fla. And a ladies voice came of the loud speaker and said, John your needed in isle 8. And then the guy got on the loud speaker and said. " Thanks ya....... thank ya very muuuccchh......" I laughed so hard I almost pissed myself. I had to hunt this guy down. When I found him, he told me that he does this kind of stuff all the time.

I couldn't agree more with the anti-consumerism sentiments. But I lead enough of a simple cave man existence as it is. 90 percent of my food is home grown, my house is made out of earth, my water comes from a spring up the hill. Sometimes it's nice to have a working stove to throw the Brontosaurus ribs on when you're just too tired to bang rocks together to make a fire.

first I would have to ask how much snow and or ice. they not only have to worry about the roads, they are also carrying your 2300 appliance up your walk, over snow/ice steps whatever. see it from their point. is timely worth hurting someone, tearing up your appliance or property. they aslo have the same worry at the 8-10 other deliveries that day or in the proceding/after days with the same stuff compound that with the xmas crazy on the road traffic and it doesnt seem that out of line to me.

Went thru a very similar thing with Home Deport as did the OP.
Carpet delivery/installation - never happened. I eventually was connected to their carpet contractors admin - a late 40s child of the 60s space cadet female. I wish I could have recorded that conversation. Yea....HD farms out delivery/installation. A real train wreck as far as I'm concerned. As JR pointed out - no real difference in quality between HD and Lowes with regard to delivery/installation. They all hire the same morons.
