83 300D custom paint?
hiya everyone! first, thank you very much to all who have helped me out these last couple months... all mechanical work is done and im on to the body and paint. here is my question... i have been toying with the idea of painting him two-tone but trying to get some insight on whether or not its a good idea. i do have the chrome trim around so i was thinking the original ashton gray on top but just like 2 shades darker on the lower half. what do you guys think? i know the it wouldnt help the resale but that really isnt an issue because i doubt anything will make me sell after everything ive done to get him where he is.
thanks!

Eh well I found it, not as climactic as I thought it would be--I thought there were a ton more pictures there. I think the two tone looks good on these cars, specifically if you have a pearl on both sections or both are a bit darker and sleeker, makes it look more modern. I think your plan would look good IMO.

A CLASSIC MERCEDES SHOULD NEVER BE TWO TONE. THE FACTORY WOULD OF PAINTED IT THAT WAY IF IT WAS MENT TO BE TWO TONED!

I did a thread http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/open-discussion/296046-post-pictures-126-two-tone-paint.html?highlight=tone+paint on two toning my 85 three hundred sd. I got some pretty sweet examples of it on the S classes. I think the 123 has easier break lines. You can split the 123 at the roof line easily but the 126 does not have a good place there. the 123 also has a good break line at the trim while the sd does not. The 126 has the lower cladding which was a different color from the factory though so that is easy to two tone and it was from the factory.
I ended up painting all of my sd one color to save a couple hundred on the paint job. It looks pretty good that way in the manganese brown it came from the factory with, i think.
