The one on eBay seems to be a steel.

How can you tell that it's a dash cap? You sure it's not a whole new dash? You raise a good point, though. No way to judge the car's value from those photos. If it's as good as it looks from a distance and if a buyer really wants that type of car, then I would not quibble with the $21K price. The OM617 is a piece of history, IMHO. Probably couldn't re-sell it for that, but if that's what you want and you can afford it, why not? If I had extra cash and found a W123 sedan in that condition, with turbo, AC, manual HVAC controls, a stick, and a stellar maintenance history, I would pay $21K all day long. The 121,000 on the odometer wouldn't bother me a bit.

$21,000
I got mine for $2,000 and my cracked block, rusty E320 two years ago.
No rust, no Bondo and it's not a smelly diesel.

Damn Xlimodriver that car rocks... That's a much better car than the re-put-together $21K car.
What's that around/on top of the rear hatch- almost like a little spoiler?

Honus if you look at the dash pics you'll see the dash cap on the right side sticking out a bit further on the top than the bottom. It's a dash cap for sure. Also the whole car was recarpeted with non original carpet it appears. The seats are not original either. Restored cars that are not original are certainly worth less than a unrestored car in great shape. BTW there are precious few (if any were ever built) 617-95X w123 wagons/coupes/sedans with a/c, a manual tranny and manual a/c. That roof rack was never a option either. Let the fool who is the high bidder be parted from his money.

People getting way too obsessive over those cars. Typical Santa Monica, CA occurrence. Who knows what's behind that bidding. Starting @ $200 ...?

Those white walls make me dizzy to the point of ... .. the roof rack is about as obnoxious as it gets. The car is not even worth a consideration. Thanks, but no thanks.

Automatic tranny.

Just a little lip on the top end of the hatch.

Don't drive it in the winter, just sits with fresh wax job and oil sprayed underneath.
I've got to widen the doors to the barn to get it in next winter.

Can't argue with any of that. I would also note that I have no idea what that car is worth. I'm just saying that if it costs $20K to get a really, really nice w123, then that's still a lot of car for the money, especially when compared to a newer Kia or something.

Which is too bad. A sedan with those specs would be my preference. Mercedes automatic HVAC from that era is crap. Japanese cars completely kick Benz's butt when it comes to HVAC. My wife's 1998 Accord has better HVAC than my 1985 300D or my 1999 BMW ever had.
