Cool ** Olberman is panning for a new gig...once he quits p!ss!ng on his old bosses... **

Yep, Keith Olberman has quit playing well with others at his latest gig and got the ol' boot from the bosses...

The guy's got a set of pipes on him that ring clear and clean...but he's got this lil' problem of being a "star" and it keeps people p!ssed off at him...and it's all their fault for not understanding that they are in so close proximity to such great and unbelieveable talent.

Too bad "AIR AMERICAN" still is off the air...

Hey, don't worry...I'm sure KO and BearPigMan will buddy-up soon and Air Gore (pun intended) will see the brilliance of that matchup and then the world will start rotating around their awesomenessness!!!

What amazes me is that all these people are millionaires several times over, why not use the money and enjoy life?

Do you think anyone besides the Wikipedia archive is going to remember most of these people/things after we're dead? Or care?

The problem I see with Wiki-anything is that it's own "charter" or "claim of being" is the fact that it can be edited by anyone...

Facts and truth be damned!!!

Full forward the lil' lies and falsehoods...as long as the ends justify the means...

Sure...you can write anything and hopefully someone will filter out the chaff from reality...but until that happens, the only clue as to what you're reading MAY be of dubious origins is the phrasing that mentions "...item(s) need clarification..." or something of that strain.

There's nothing like "fact-checking" anymore and because of that, it seems, everyone is entitled to their version of the facts as they've become accustomed to aquiring them...anything else is "poo-poo'ed" as drivel and pablum from the opposing source(s)...

As a side-note to this discourse...

Encyclopedia Brittanica has just recently announced it will no longer PRINT itself...and from that statement EB will now be known as a "flexible" document that will, purportedly, still be useable as a reference guide for knowledge.

And all sand castles will stand the test of time...

To the victor goes the spoils of war and the ability to write history...

He who screams the loudest...

I have no special love for Wikipedia. Substitute the New York Times, The Congressional Record, The Encyclopedia Britannica, don't care.

At best, Olbermann and his ilk will be a footnote in history, right along side William Daprato, Frank Zaremba and Ricardo Subo.

point 1 - I do. Its a great starting point to get reliable and reputable sources on subjects if you have little to no experience or knowledge prior. If you look in the references or further reading sections there is a list of publications, often peer-reviewed (if scientific or academic) that will get the ball rolling. From there, digest the sources and go to their reference pages and do the same - typical academic research.

Point 2 - I agree. The only ones that seem to make a mark are comedians. Political commentators are dime a dozen.

I liked Olbermann when he was on ESPN.

But once he decided he was a pundit and that everyone should care about his opinion on things that weren't related to sports...

Olbermann had his moments. When he burst onto the scene, he provided a service. He and his team regularly presented stories about the incompetence and corruption of the Bush admin. that no one else was.

He does have ego problems, no doubt. One hopes he will grow up someday, for the general sake of the human race. Could be there wasn't room enough for his and Gore's ego under one roof.

I liked many of his final comments when he was on MSNBC, and enjoyed immensely his lampooning of Bill O, Rush, Palin and other assorted buffoons. I haven't watched him on Current much. I don't know why. Maybe it was on at a weird time or something. I never considered him an authority on anything, but as said above, he was willing to call people out on stuff that nobody else was.

The times I tuned in on his program - for the few minutes I could stomach listening to it - I found him to be a shrill, irritating, arrogant loudmouth - no different from the other buffoons that elchivito listed above, and for whom I have a similar lack of respect.

As was said, ten years from now no one will remember a thing any of them said - mostly because, except for the politically fanatical of either side, no one gives a damn what they say NOW.

I'm not sure who had a bigger ego-- Olberman or Chris Mathews. I'm glad he's out, but unfortunately there's always an audience for his brand of hatred. So he'll find an outlet somewhere.

What a miserable man...

I liked the earlier version of Matthews, when he tried to have a fair and balanced evaluation of current political events. When he jettisoned that format he jettisoned me. Now it's all party-line political rant in which he out-shouts everybody. No thanks,

He was on Letterman last night -- not that I saw it -- but here are some highlights:

Olbermann appeared to be engaging in some reputation rehab by appearing self-deprecating on the show.

"I screwed up really big on this. It's my fault that it didn't succeed, in the sense that I didn't think the whole thing through."

Olbermann compared himself to a $10 million chandelier. "I didn't say, 'You know, if you buy a $10 million chandelier, you should have a house to put it in.' Just walking around with a $10 million chandelier isn't going to do anybody a lot of good."

"You're the chandelier?" Letterman said.

Um, yeah. Olbermann is suggesting that someone of his renown ("EGO") shouldn't have signed up with the lowly "Current" in the first place.

As I said earlier, once he ran down the block of thinking people really valued his opinion on any topic, the die was cast.

***********

And speaking of casts and dying, there is this tidbit out of Vienna:

Actor slits his own throat as knife switch turns fiction into reality

Quote:
An actor slit his throat on stage when the prop knife for his suicide scene turned out to be a real one.

Daniel Hoevels, 30, slumped over with blood pouring from his neck while the audience broke into applause at the "special effect". Police are investigating whether the knife was a mistake or a murder plot. They are questioning the rest of the cast, and backstage hands with access to props; they will also carry out DNA tests.
Quote:
It was only when he did not get up to take a bow that anyone realised something had gone wrong.
Quote:
Though bleeding profusely, Hoevels survived because the knife missed the carotid artery as it sliced into his neck. Wolfgang Lenz, a doctor who treated him, said: "Just a little bit deeper and he would have been drowning in his own blood."
Quote:
After emergency treatment at a hospital, Hoevels declared that the show must go on, and returned to the stage on Sunday night...
