here Kerry, thought you might enjoy this...

...It's a link to one of my (arguably) better half's blogs.

This time around she tells the tale of "the time we flipped the canoe", though I think there's a link in there to another of her canoe related posts. I must of course let you know, that not everything you read on the internet is true, and this story certainly reflects that. For instance, I think she might have taken some liberties with the temperatures for that afternoon... I don't believe it ever got over 120... And there are glaring ommisions, namely any of my (numerous) moments of brilliance. But all that aside, it's a tale of a canoe trip, so without further ado:

Paddling Uphill

Good story.

Sounds like a better cooler may be in order... one that keeps the water out and the beer in.

Yes, a different cooler is needed for the role of "Canoe cooler", preferably one that latches. We didn't lose all the beer, only one got away. And of course the one we gave to the guy who helped us out with the recovery. All in all, as canoe wrecks go, it could have been a lot worse.

At least it was warm that day.

Found another of her canoe tales:

Side Channel of Doom

The more of these I read, the more I wonder if she'll ever agree to get into the canoe again! But I know there are some here who paddle, and thought they might enjoy a (decidedly slanted) tale or two.

Hopefully they'll turn the river on soon, and we can be back at it. Or at least our schedule will lighten up to where we can make a day of it and head to another area. The nearby Kings River has a bit of water in it:

I need to see if we have any pics of the spot we rolled it. Whoever decided we could go up that was a fool. And whoever listened to him...

Great story, made even better by the fact that I kept reading 'throngs' as 'thongs'. Always put a strap around your cooler to keep it shut. No cooler latch is trustworthy in a canoe.

Words of wisdom.

I have pretty much gone over to the kayak side.

No one tells you when to switch, and no one has to power the other person all the way up the river... it's got something for everyone

You could reshape the rapids as you go.....

More rain though the midweek! Forecasts of snow for the high elevations! Maybe they'll turn the river on soon!

Currently releases are below 50 cfs, so basically, nothing. Hopefully they'll have it one in time for May. Last year we were in it in Feb.

Snowpack is very low in CO and is melting early due to higher than normal temperatures.

My gauges registered .8 of an inch last night! That's amazing for our area. Almost an entire Aprils worth, Certainly a summer's worth. We might just catch up to an average year. Too bad we were spoiled by a couple of above average years recently.

She'll be happy with a slower river though, so I guess it's all good.
