Overhead Bin - Report shows 'gaping hole' in airport security

A couple of years ago one of my nieces was flying home from college for Christmas. There were no direct flights and one required a terminal change, so she passed through security in a couple of different domestic airports.

When she arrived home she was emptying out her backpack (which she carried on) and did a double-take.

At the bottom of her backpack was her suture kit, complete with scalpel, replacement blades, needles and a few other odds and ends.

Went through security just fine...

TSA is a joke. A ton of money pissed away for a figment of security.

Heck, most of the TSA screeners seem like more of a security risk than the people they are screening.

And Newark is a hole, I pity the fool has to fly in/out/or through there.

Those are good paying union jobs!

I tend to agree -- if I'm going to fly out of anywhere in NYC, LaGuardia is preferred, no matter how much people whinge about the place.
(a) it caters to a lot of impatient business travellers, so TSA keeps the line moving along well, and security isn't much stricter than pre-9/11.
(b) it's 15 min cab ride from my home
(c) you get an awesome view of NYC when taking off and flying west :) Sorry, but Newark Bay is just no comparison.

LaGuardia, of course, or maybe Teterboro :) I actually saw Sullenberger's plane land in the Hudson.

What do you expect when the guys you hire get $9 an hour and are HS drop outs?

The reality is it is almost impossible to defeat someone seriously intent on bombing a plane out of the air in my opinion. Thats if they have reasonable intelligence as well as an unbalanced viewpoint of things.

The current security is more window dressing than anything else in my opinion.

Yes it's pretty chimerical and illusory..

Even a dumb terrorist wouldn't try to attempt another 9/11 attack.

They'd just drive up to the front entrance and detonate the car, like the Jeep Cherokee attack in Scotland a few years ago.

Or have a few terrorists with suicide bomb vests hit the baggage claim in Houston or Atlanta when i9t got real real busy.

Hatred can adapt itself real well, I think.

The TSA is inept and reactive.

Oh, I guess ----
