I tried that, and I got caught. :( I returned the money because I'm WAY to pretty to go to jail.

What was the return on the investment, including maintenance and consumables, for that copier over the 12 year life? If it was profitable, and the future projection for a replacement, given the market and technology, then there should be little if any hesitation to replace or upgrade.

The return on investment was crazy good. I didn't pay 78,000 for it, I paid less than 10,000 the technology changed just after this machine was built. I made my money back with a few months.

Can it be written off on next year's taxes as a business expense?

Sounds like it is "tools of the trade"

...and this applies to commercial color copiers...how? ;)

Technology is so vastly improved, it's amazing what you can get nowadays. It would probably cost you more to repair your old one than to source a new one.

As would be the repair costs, as business expense, which was likely taken for the prior repairs and depreciation of the equipment.

I spent all day in a last ditch effort to fix it. Just as soon as I got rid of one failure code, another code appear. Called the dealer and they said that the copier was so old that they don't even work on them or train their new techs to work on them.

The new color copier arrives tomorrow. NO MORE fighting with the old one. NO MORE having to tear the machine apart to fix it. NO MORE of my blood will be spilled while fixing that evil machine. NO MORE trying to figure out how to trick the machine into working with tape, pieces of cardboard and small pieces of wire. I WILL for once in my life have a machine that will WORK...

My rant is over.
