This seems like a good idea but I can't help but wonder what would happen if you picked up a crew of workers from China parked them off the coast of the US and started up a factory. No government to get in the way, shorter supply lines. All the benifits of Chinese production in our own back yard.

A barge? sitting in the pacific ocean? how sea worthy is this, will it have tug tenders, will it be capable of self movement? what are the emergency and weather/wave protocols? the images look like something you would design for a bathtub or a river environment, not the pacific. Why don't they build this on a used ultra crude tanker? that way it will at least be more seaworthy, and can dock or seek shelter from storms edit: I like this line from the article- The logistics of providing food and other basic necessities might seem like a nightmare, but the company notes that these issues have already been solved by modern cruise ships. Seems like an evasion to me, modern cruise ships dock for resupply, just like every ship ever since the dawn of time, the problem they face would be a completely different form of supply, more like a military base requiring supply ships, or a beachhead.

This reminds me of a problem with some managers in big businesses. They are all King but have no Kingdom. In other words: On paper they have a lot of stroke but their budget is almost nothing.
This sort of strikes me as an ego trip, or perhaps it is supposed to be a version of the Utopia movements from the 1830's? We once had a guy that would get a promotion now and then which really amounted to nothing more than a title change. Every time this took place he would hold a meeting where he made a speech that always started with, "Behold, I reached out with my hand and.....", and I don't remember much of it after that. The entire point of the meeting was to let the management know none of us could spend a title change. So now this guy has money but no power. Solution? Create subjects to have power over. The love of Power is worse than any drug when it comes to ruling your life. One of our Mangers, after being retired for several years, told us he did not miss the salary or the perks or the use of our jets or anything else. But he did miss the power to fire people. |

I used to LOVE the idea of power; But I thought about this, rolled it around in my head for a long time, so now, I don't know;
Maybe the just TRAPPINGS of power might be enough. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'd like to be under the sea in a an octopus's garden in the rain. It would be warm under the storm.

Its sad that a nation of immigrants would have such a xenophobic immigration policy making this barge necessary.

Agreed. I think all the problems with have with immagration today is becasue we no longer have a front door (Ellis Island, Angel Island) as a result people are jumping the back fince. and we get upset. If it were easier to immagrate we would have less illegals, more citizens and a better econemy.
