Goodbye old friends

My dog is being pit down today, which I am ok with. He's 19 years old and for a mid sized poodle that is extremely old, I believe the avg life span is 14. But he needs to go to a better place. After his seizure 6 or so months ago his health and mind took a dive. We'll miss you bud.

It's good you are being there for such a hard decision. May good memories of better times lie ahead.

Non pet owners can't understand the loss a pet owner feels at times like this. It is a sad day.

Sorry to hear that, J.

My old retriever is 15 now and he's starting to have a rough time getting around. I'm already dreading the day I have to make that fateful decision.

My son's dog is 14 and had a stroke, but recovery was miraculous! The dog is a little slow to run, but very alert and playful, with no tics or paralysis.

So far, so good.

I know how hard this is for you....I feel for you, buddy.

Our beloved mini dachshund, Peewee, is now 16 years old, and is getting closer to the end.

I'm dreading the thought of having to put her down.

She's totally deaf, blind on one eye due to glaucoma, and losing her vision in the other eye due to cataracts. She has bad arthritis, has a very enlarged heart, and has lost the ability to control her bowels. She frequently poops in her bed when she's sleeping.

It sure is hard watching them get old, isn't it?

Few pains equal that of losing a pet.

speaking of losing pets, Ive seen something opposite, I have seen a horse with tears on the death of a little girl. - It was really touching.

Done it many times, never becomes less emotionally draining and painful. I had one great brindle pointer who made it to 16, after collapsing with a tumor at 13 which the vet successfully removed granting us a few more very good years. Her hunting life was over at 12 but she became the perfect house companion, guarding us against moths and spiders, at whom she would hold point till I called her down. She once held point on a beetle that was on a bathroom ceiling for 2 hours my wife said.

Other companions have been great Danes, pit bulls, borzoi, and mutts. Each one with a distinctive personality and a unique mien. I feel for ya, but you seem to know the score already, 19 is a helluva run.

You must have gotten the little dog when you was very young.

Besides losing my wife, I am not sure what will.

Sorry to TheDon but having dogs that died suddenly, I think it is easier on me to put them down than to have them die without the ability to say goodbye and apologize for any misdeeds.
