Do you "opt out" of the "naked scanners" when directed to use them?

I always do, less because of radiation risk, but because if I'm going to have my privacy violated, I wish the violators to have to go through max inconvenience to do so. i.e. a pat-down is likely quite uncomfy for the 90% of male TSA agents who are "straight." Not to mention time-consuming.

I've had enough radiation already in my life that I'm happy enough to avoid it.


Spdrun, if you really want to have fun with your (perceived straight and uncomfortable) male pat-down agent, when he's finished, smile enthusiastically and say, "Thanks, that's the best action I've had in a while!"

Have been thru a lot of International airports, Immigration checkpoints on this side of the pond. Never once been subjected to radiation/x-ray screening.

I thought the slogan for the U.S.A is 'Home of the Free'.

That's why I keep my mouth shut and my carry-on open when I go through the checkpoints.
Anything that deviates from the norm will only increase your expose to these fools.
I'll take the roentgens rather than the rejects.

I hope to never get on another airplane before that group is shut down. (which probably means I will never fly again). They do not make me feel one bit safer, quite the opposite.

TSA seems to vary locally. LGA and EWR are mostly professional and reasonable, IAD is plagued by mouth breathing rejects. PHX and LAX are somewhere in between.

I fly monthly for business, never had a problem with TSA at PHX Sky Harbor.

If I have to travel I drive. But then I am retired and don't have to be in a hurry about anything.

Before I retired I flew on our company jet. Then time was money and money was something we had lots of.

I have not been on a commercial flight since about 1979.

Didn't have a problem either, but the NYC airports still seem better run since the TSA encourages the line to keep moving if people are slow -- i.e. "he's not ready ... go ahead. Next."

You aren't missing anything. I haven't flown on my own dime since 2008, and the time before that was in 1998, but I keep having to fly for business several times a year.

I've had to take off combat boots that havent been removed in 3 days, to board a flight... I considered making a stink, but I "really" wanted to get home on my leave.

I've also flown cross country with a 3.5" spring assist gerber combat knife in my ankle pocket... And only noticed it after I got back into BIAP...

Traveling in uniform is hit or miss. Traveling in civilian attire is a lousy way to travel any way you slice it. If someone intentionally touches my genitals without my permission, I am suing for sexual assault.

until they replace the current flimsy card board cockpit door with bank vault locking doors complete with restroom facilities, I'll not step foot on a commercial airliner. Currently, when the pilots need to use the restroom, they open the door mid-flight which of course opens the door for possible trouble. I'm sure the cost of a retrofit wouldn't be cheap and that is most likely why the airlines aren't doing it.

When the US Airways flight ditched in the Hudson river, word on the street was that a flight attendant attempted to stop passengers from opening the rear door of the aircraft but was knocked out of the way. The passengers managed to get the door open which allowed the aircraft to flood with water which ultimately caused it to SINK. think about it; you are flying in an aluminum cigar full of passengers who have not been trained in aircraft emergency procedures.......a sure recipe for disaster.
