I hate current new cars

The windshield angle is too shallow, I guess for better, aerodynamics, better gas mileage
The windshield is too far forward and with big fat A pillars, I feel like I am sitting in the back seat driving.
Everything else is too close to me, wraparound feeling they try to give us makes me feel claustrophobic, even in large cars.
I cannot find an affordable new car that I can tolerate. I am in the market for a new convertible.

Thank you, I needed to vent.

The one aspect I hate is the tallness. Tall beltlines, to make you feel like you're sitting in a bathtub. Tall bodies because Americans like to feel like they're sitting in a f**kin' UPS truck for safety. In short, American drivers are big fat nancies.

Other than a cabrio, what are your other requirements . . . number of doors, number of seats, price range.

prefer a roadster, 2 seats.

What exactly are you looking for? Big A pillars are because there are often airbags in them, and they have huge strength for the passenger compartment since cars are much safer nowadays. Sitting far forward is typically because of transverse mounted engines and result in a much larger rear seat.

Aside from the muscle car convertibles, not much out there to suit your fancy.

Sounds like this is your ideal convertible?

High beltline. No real transmission available, only a 2-pedal sissymatic for the US market. If I was given one for free, I'd part it out and then experiment with Thermite on what remained.

At least it's not flunk-wheel-driven, I'll give it that

2nd post and already the rhetoric derailing Rafi's thread? Where in the heck are you from again? I wouldn't keep asking, but your hate of all things American is annoying since you live in NYC on American soil (or so you say). Lets have some info on where you get this hate, and what your nationality actually is.

The design changes are universal in many new cars AROUND THE WORLD based on safety improvements and higher standards.

I agree with Rafi, im not a fan of newer cars. I recently drove a toyota matrix which had the very high beltline we are discussing, and made it very unenjoyable to drive for such a small car.

Get a Miata/MX-5, those have decently low beltlines, and since the generation one, are an absolute blast to drive

I'd take the new TT-RS too.

Mother is the market for a new car, steering her towards the A7, but she's got a hankering for a Cayenne. (for the dog)

Transverse engines? Who wants a f**king FWD convertible? The only kind of transverse engines that should exist in a convertible are mid- or rear-mounted.

Not me, I was just answering to the OP's gripe as a general trend in a lot of cars these days. I fail to the the logic in this thread too...

Looking for a small 2 seat roadster then complain about claustrophobic interior and big A pillar.

If they made that car now I would consider buying it.

I do not want to contort myself to get in while the top is up, I am not going racing. I want a leisurely drive in a decent car, is that too much to ask.

I tried the Miata, with the top up I have to contort my head to get in. Same as the new SLK. Same as the new Camaro. I like the new SL and can get in fine but too much money, even the used ones, I have to wait one or two more years before a used Sl will be in my price range.

I have not tried the Audi TT or Boxster with top up to see how easy it is to get in. With top down any of these are OK.

Love the Miata. It's funny: it has a "limpwrist car" reputation, yet it's one of the few cars made in the last 20 years that is NOT designed to pander to the safety-nancy crowd.
