LOL

I don't know what TANSTAAFL means.

I could go everywhere I need to go for the most part with something like that but I could say the same thing about a bicycle if it were not for that dirt driveway.

I think TBO hit on something here that may very well lead to the answers to all your questions. At least it made me start thinking about it.

TBO pointed out that the pillars in today's cars are bigger in order to contain the window curtain airbags. That is only ONE thing, but there are NUMEROUS design considerations and constraints in new cars, that didn't exist not long ago. Many of them involving things that are required by law.

Today's technologies and requirements are changing our cars pretty quickly. The competition among so many different makers is also causing them to change.

It's a complex combination of things that are changing our cars, some things for the good, and other things for the better.

New Beetle Convertible? I know there isn't one out yet for the new, new beetle, but it looks like it may fit the bill.
One of the things I like about it is that it doesn't look like every other Camry, or Mini or large or crossover SUV style. It actually has style.
For some, there's the stigma of girly, but with the right color combination, I think that can be surpassed.

or

maybe not

Mini Cooper Convertible? I see the same problem, but I do see more guys driving them than girls.

And some for the bad -- no excuse that the average sedan is lugging around 3000 lb of pigfat.

That is the way I see it. For the most parts folks around here could get along with a Kubota all wheel drive two seater with 35 hp.

I agree. Although an American, I prefer the feeling of my arse only an inch or two above the cat's eyes, while gliding down the road in a blinding blur.
