This is Mass., where they used to string people up for adultery and witchcraft back in the day. Enough said. This isn't a new law either -- it just changes the penalty from jail time to a $20 ticket.

Though Boston/Camberville has mostly shed the Puritan culture, thankfully.

My guess is that by "decriminalizing" it to a simple fine they hope to avoid First Amendment issues.

Personally, I sympathize with them. Say whatever you want when you're home, in a small group with your buds, etc. Yelling F bombs and the like in public places? If you don't have the decency to understand it's inappropriate, then $20 may help.
