Flywheel question

Kohler Courage. would rust on the flywheel bugger around with the magneto? the magnets on the wheel have surface rust. I've been experiencing a fiddly idle and wonder if this is possibly the cause?

Nope, the rust won't have any affect at all. How are the points, plug and carb? Got fresh ( less than 30 days old) fuel?

Everything is fresh. Valve lash is correct. have to keep fiddling with the carb (when it runs (needed a starter) ) to make it right. might replace the carb and see how that goes

I used to play with Model T Fords. Rust on the flywheel never made any difference to one of those Magnetos.

If it's not so old that the carb seals are rotted, take it apart, clean everything, and reassemble.

Replace the engine with something else. The Courage is not your father's Kohler. It it's the twin cam single cylinder, sooner or later it will self destruct. The V twin is supposed to have a better history.

I will think about it if and when it blows. I dont want to do something I dont have to do to it right now.
