Google Glasses

I don't have a link, but you can Google this and see what I am talking about.

As I was reading this I was wondering what the big deal was? This looks like something the US Army has had for 20 years. Is it just that it is smaller, or cheaper, or is there something else here I am missing?

I am not techie enough to understand the implications of this product, but I would love to hear comments from anyone who wants to chime in.

I wonder what they have in mind for people who already wear regular corrective lenses?

By the time they have that ready to go to market, Apple will have a chip that you install in your brain . . . It'll have GOOEY interface . . . .

I can hardly wait. I have been worried that with the Buzzkillers making texting and driving illegal, there would be nothing to do while driving besides eating.

Well....

A friend of mine who is in inside sales of hydraulic equipment says his firm is already talking about using these. Instead of flipping through a catalog, or a data base, looking for product specs they could be called up faster and displayed right in front of you.

The best part is that if the person you are talking to has a pair of these your phone could talk to theirs and they could see what you are seeing.

This would really help when your car is in the shop and your get a call saying, "We found something you should look at while this is in the shop."

It is also possible for you to be able to see in the infra-red spectrum. Or the microwave spectrum. That would be the end of radar detectors if you could see the projected radar beams.

Cars can already have heads-up displays. The tech has been around for 20 years. As far as the auto mechanic application, why do you need the glasses, as opposed to just video chat via smartphone?

Throw in the feature that allows me to see under clothes and I am so in.

As a sales gimmick.

Not to brag, but I usually know what is going on with my car better than the mechanics do. And I think most of us here could say the same thing since we work at understanding mechanical problems. Most people don't.

Anyway, a simple phone call is fine with me. But there will be those out that that will use this to sell things, such as a service, by making you think they are going the extra mile.

I know I don't know more than my mechanic. Not when he is a master guild tech whom MB has sent to Germany and he has access to the diagnostic tools and with good experience.
