Even though its not too far, there are 16 stop signs/lights on the way there.

Bicycle -- go to the gym AND commute all at once.

And since I roll out of the house about 3:30am, I have an 8 lane freeway pretty much to myself, so I just set the cruise and I can still get 20 mpg running 100+ mph...

6.6 miles each way. I tried the bicycle method but its like a death race movie remake on the local roads these days with cell phones, hyper sound insulated cars and just plain old inattentive drivers. Keep in mind I used to work as a bicycle messenger in a major metro area in the early nineties and driver distraction is far worse today!!!

I switch up the cars I drive to keep it interesting. As an added bonus I just started telecommuting 2 days a week. Love it!!! Much less distractions.

16 miles. 25 minutes door to door with no traffic, up to 1:30 if it rains or other people are having a bad day. The drivers around Baltimore are unbelievably bad.

My worst commute was from Western MD (Gaithersburg) to Baltimore, that was 72 miles each way. If I left any later than 6:30 am I hit so much traffic it wasn't even funny. Pre 6:30am and all was clear. Drove the 300D almost every day it was great with a straight pipe and 600WRMS stereo :D

Howdy All,
Quarter mile from house to the company gate. Once through the gate at least another quarter mile to the office. If I have to go to the main facility that is a half mile from the gate.

About 6.5 miles each way, takes about 13-16 mins. :D

A bag of ball bearings tends to wake inattentive cagers up nicely. Plop-plop-plop-SHATTER-*CRACK*

One time when I bike-commuted in NJ, I was passing a traffic jam down the shoulder when some brain dead cager tried to crowd me. Kicked his door as hard as I could, leaving a large dent. When he yelled at me, I mentioned that he probably hit me and OFFERED to call the cops, which he declined.

And yeah, the trend towards sensory deprivation chambers on wheels is deplorable.

I wish I had said that. I probably will.

Zero commute. Never understood why people say "permanent vacation" like it was a bad thing.

Actually, funny that you mention that! I initially posted that back in November, I'd still like to get a commuter motorcycle but today (my day off) I'm prepping a '76 Viscount Aerospace GP for commuter use. Basically new handlebars, brake levers and cables. I also need to find a front fork that fits.

After I asked the building manager about biking to work, they decided to install a bike rack! So once it starts getting warmer than about 45* in the morning I'll be hopping on and biking instead.

This is america. Vacation is looked down upon. You must work 50+ hours a week and never take a vacation or sick day.

I'm meeting with some clients today at 12 -- doing some coding at home till then. My commute will literally be a walk in the (Central) park, since they're on 53rd St and I live quite a few blocks higher up.
