Movie Review.

Very cool story, Bot! I'm going to have to check out his band. They're playing at Yale next week, which is about 40 minutes away, and the next day in Augusta, ME which is about 40 miles away from our camp. If I can fit it in (and there are tickets available), I might take a ride down. I see where others have described their sound as Cajun Punk. Sounds like it's right in my comfort zone.

I wish my family had stronger links to our self-sustaining past. Despite having a pretty well documented history here dating back to the 1630's, none of it is particularly exciting. While always involved in agriculture, they got a way from full-time farming and into mercantile, after which they became entirely too domesticated. I've been working on getting my kids more "swamp yankee"-ish, taking them fishing and hunting, getting them into gardening with hopes of going larger scale for local market production. Granted I'm guilty of perpetuating our domestication by purchasing a house in suburbia, but my grand master plan in the next couple years is to buy a small farm for organic vegetable and flower production. Not quite building my own homestead, but a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned.

EDIT: Cool, they're in iTunes. I'll be downloading some tunes this morning for my trip north this afternoon!

damn cool. makes me miss my home of south Lousiana. I will check them out. I am sure my grandfather, John E Hebert, the accordian maker, is smiling from some metaphysical spot at the embarcement of the culture by a new generation and the incorporation of cajun music into a new genre.

The "Blue Moon Saloon" is a fun place to hear some great live jams. Sonny Landreth drops by now and then. Talk about jamming! If I were 30 years younger than somebody thinks I am I would be unmarried and living at the Blue Moon Saloon. A Wasted, happy life.

One of my kids is friends with one of the musicians in "The Givers". Danged if I remember which. They do a good live show.

Neat stuff! Thanks for sharing, always love hearing "local" stuff from elsewhere. Around here its mainly hardcore and metal (which I've been a part of for a while, doubt anyone here is really into it) and there's still a wisp of funk in the air in Philly, home to great acts of the past like Teddy Pendergrass, MFSB, even Stan Getz and some jazz guys were huge here...good stuff but new music but its very modern in general which is definitely give in take in those areas.
