China and Peru each produce about as much copper as the U.S. does. Chile produces about 3x as much and estimates of it's reserves have been upped recently. No other country comes close. Why are we selling scrap to asia? This seems short sighted at best. They're putting it back into electronics that end up in WalMart. Recycled scrap accounts for a significant portion of copper usage. Maybe we need to think about less harmful ways to satisfy our copper needs.

Uhh--I heard EXACTLY the OPPOSITE. The locals want to continue LIVING, instead of selling out to lies about prospering --for a pittance of what theis big dirty , lieing conglomerate is offering --the ole carrot on a string line of BS to get what they want.
I dont think the natives there are Sucka's |

The Impact would be so great in Two different ways
1.Ecological Disaster
(AND going into this PP LLC is falsifying the study DATA.They know if they're honest about this project, there's not a Snowball's Chance in Hell of Approval.) 2.The Precedent set for OTHER Ecological Disasters (AKA More Open Pits). Everybody in the Basin who is dependent upon it's renewable resources got together and ASKED the E.P.A. to use the Clean Water Act to stop this Catastrophe. HELL there's more than enough natural Mineral riches in Areas that are not so Pristine. AND we sure have more than a gracious plenty of Evil,Greedy,Rich, White, Recidivists willing to destroy the Planet underneath our feet as we all live on it. (Where TF DO All these Darwin Award Winners plan for their grandchildren to live? Newt's Moon Colony? ) The front man/CEO for Pebbles said the site would have to be monitored for 10 to 15 THOUSAND years. This Clown is actually suggesting the Inhabitants of the Valley and beyond acquiesce to a Sword of Damocles hanging over their heads for 15K years ??? (Are they [Pebbles] gonna put up a bond to cover the costs AND reparations for the Eventual Disaster BEFOREHAND???) The people of Alaska would do better to just ask Vladimir have the FSB Make Sky drops of slurry from Chernoble onto the Valley...Then they have one last big Bear Hunt,Salmon fish... before they all start Glowing in the Dark.
