We saw Frontline last night. That mine sounds like a horrible idea.
|
I saw a TV show on it last night which also concluded the mine was a horrible idea and presented the topic with that slant. After watching the slanted laid out like a non slanted news program I did not like the mine. How much was me and how much was due to the slant I do not know; it was slanted.

Think of the JOBS. The JOBS!!
|
If you want a SALMON, just go *BUY* one in your local Safeway store!!
|
I thought Pebbles was the daughter of Fred & Wilma Flintstone.
|
On the one hand, I can understand the environmental impact. On the other, if we're going to develop an electric/hydrogen economy, independent from earth-destroying oil, then we're going to need sources of cheap copper.
Mixed feelings here. |
According to Frontline, there is no shortage of copper. Copper is readily available thru lots of other copper mines.
|
Forget about the salmon.
|
Minerals=non-renewable resource
Salmon=continual supply |

But WHAT are they going to do about BAMM-BAMM???
|
40K sq. mile watershed? One of the most pristine in the world? Largest salmon fishery anywhere? Giant open pit mine? I'm sure these mining companies have the best interests of the people of Alaska and their resources foremost in their plans.
What could possibly go wrong? |

China and Peru each produce about as much copper as the U.S. does. Chile produces about 3x as much and estimates of it's reserves have been upped recently. No other country comes close. Why are we selling scrap to asia? This seems short sighted at best. They're putting it back into electronics that end up in WalMart. Recycled scrap accounts for a significant portion of copper usage. Maybe we need to think about less harmful ways to satisfy our copper needs.

So-- YOU--re gonna benifit???? just like everyone has benifited from energy companies fracking mother earth. Leukemia--such a benifit! |

Didn't say that. Look at what's in the ground. Local's want the jobs. It's history. Sooner or later it all comes out in the wash. |
Uhh--I heard EXACTLY the OPPOSITE. The locals want to continue LIVING, instead of selling out to lies about prospering --for a pittance of what theis big dirty , lieing conglomerate is offering --the ole carrot on a string line of BS to get what they want.
I dont think the natives there are Sucka's |

All that gold and copper......it's coming out of the ground. |
Naah.
The big ole bad EPA is gonna summarily execute this idiotic plan. |

Mitt gets in they're going to rape, pillage and plunder the pristine wilderness. |

I want to know how they arrived at the gold estimate. Especially the 0.4 million ounces part....I think I need whoever did that math to help with my whiskey dilemma. |

Opinion? Is there any other mining concerns in the area and how has it faired? |
The Impact would be so great in Two different ways
1.Ecological Disaster
(AND going into this PP LLC is falsifying the study DATA.They know if they're honest about this project,there's not a Snowball's Chance in Hell of Approval.) 2.The Precedent set for OTHER Ecological Disasters (AKA More Open Pits). Everybody in the Basin who is dependent upon it's renewable resources got together and ASKED the E.P.A. to use the Clean Water Act to stop this Catastrophe. HELL there's more than enough natural Mineral riches in Areas that are not so Pristine. AND we sure have more than a gracious plenty of Evil,Greedy,Rich, White, Recidivists willing to destroy the Planet underneath our feet as we all live on it. (Where TF DO All these Darwin Award Winners plan for their grandchildren to live? Newt's Moon Colony? ) The front man/CEO for Pebbles said the site would have to be monitored for 10 to 15 THOUSAND years. This Clown is actually suggesting the Inhabitants of the Valley and beyond acquiesce to a Sword of Damocles hanging over their heads for 15K years ??? (Are they [Pebbles] gonna put up a bond to cover the costs AND reparations for the Eventual Disaster BEFOREHAND???) The people of Alaska would do better to just ask Vladimir have the FSB Make Sky drops of slurry from Chernoble onto the Valley...Then they have one last big Bear Hunt,Salmon fish... before they all start Glowing in the Dark. |
