What the heck were we talking about? I forget.
why we are still at war even though osama is now fish food.

Remember, we are not "at war" the war was officially over ages ago. We are still there in order to "nation build" and spread Democracy. You cannot just leave a war torn country who has been ruled by a dictator for years. The "war on terror" will be ongoing forever.

You cannot just leave a resource-laden part of the planet vulnerable to infiltration by the commies!

Oh no! It's much worse than that. Your neighbors, those stupid jobless gen-y OWS protesters, Ron Paul fans, people upset about being cheated out of their homes, you know, terrorists!

The bad guys are Muslim. Unless they're from Saudi Arabia. Then it doesn't count. It's easy. See now?

i see. thanks for clearing it up for me. now how about that bridge in NY you were trying to sell me........

i feel sorry for the afghan civilians though. they get it from both sides.

when is the war going to end? will there be a formal surrender like the Japs during WW2?

That's a big part of the problem. There is no distinct line, no distinct uniform to allow identification of the enemy, and no one to sit down and sign a treaty.

We're boxed in the corner further because if we leave now, the lost lives & limbs will have been for nothing. That said, if we just picked up & hauled azz out of there, I wouldn't have too much problem with it. Called "cutting your losses."

Ideologies rarely surrender formally.

Don't hold your breath. More likely exhaustion. The Russians gave up after 9 years.

i am starting to notice that.

so basically this thing will end when one side finally gets tired and moves on (whenever that is). what a waste.

i hate to say this but this might be one we are not going to win. i hope i am wrong.
