Flash Mob Robbery

Flash Mob Robbers Steal $3,000 from Chicago Store. What Happened to Happy Dancing? | Work + Money - Yahoo! Shine

Talk about being PC. I guess calling it "flash mob robbery" sounds more genteel and supposedly less offensive, than calling it what it is - teen gang looting, and assault and battery. They've just adopted some of the practices of a flash mob to cover what they're actually up to until the last minute.

Yes, this is no place for political correctness. I expect it's doing quite alot for the surveillance camera business though.

They need to identify some of these punks and send them to Joliet for a LOOONNNGGGG time!

These thugs don't even get the spirit of a flash mob, where people act like random strangers until they go into character. Said they marched in with a purpose. Not a good thing. No good will come of this for any of the thieves involved.

Wonder if a baseball bat to the nutsac would have kept them from "unlocking the door and marching out."

If you knew where and when it was going to occur, you could certainly line up a few people who would be willing to swing the bat.

They've called them flash mobs here in Philly too...had a lot of coverage this time last year because the kids were out of school so their past time was to get in groups of 15-20 and mug people. Chances are, if you strike back and hit a couple kids, you'll get hit with a lawsuit. Police finally issued a curfew for people under 14 or something like that.

The Philly curfew is 9pm in downtown for people under 18. Problem is that it punishes the good along with the bad. I was actually 17 and change when I started university in Philly, and we'd go hang out on South St., go to concerts, whatever till late sometimes. We didn't rob anybody.

Wrong way to deal with this. The right way would have been to arrest the thieves, and make it known that they may have their IDs misread, causing them to be placed in general population, Philadelphia House of Detention, till the mistake is corrected the next morning.

Yeah I'm sure catching and arresting them all would have been the optimal solution. We can dream cant we? I think thy got like 2-3 of them

Yes, I was SUPER impressed with the Philadelphia mayor during all that.

I'm sorry you got caught in the middle, but something had to be done. It is INDEED unfair to have a general rule that negatively effects a law abiding citizen minding his own business, but sometimes it comes to that.

A friend of mine is currently caught up in something simply due to his being 17. He is an EXTREMELY talented and hard working pilot. He solo'd the first day he could legally, which was his 16th. birthday. He passed his Private Pilot checkride the first day he could do it legally, which was his 17th. birthday.

Now he has done all of his training for his Instrument & Commercial ratings but can't take his checkrides until he is 18. He is beside himself with frustration. Sometimes life is just that way.

The curfew didn't exist at that time. And it's a sign of piss-poor management and policing; a band-aid solution.

NYC administration thought of a similar thing when its crime rates were up, yet rejected the idea in the end. Many other cities also manage to survive without a discriminatory youth curfew.

Reading about the curfew makes me want to donate to the "Free Mumia" fund. Not because Mumia was innocent, but as a ****-you to the scum who make and enforce the laws in Filthydelphia and Pennsyltucky in general

Some wounds are well controlled with Band Aids. In this case, the Band Aid served quite well.

People of ANY age can not be allowed to just run loose breaking the law. Steps had to be taken.

Be thankful that you have a good and wise mayor in that city.
