startac phone

Just bought a 2000 clk 430. Absolutely wonderful car. It came with a phone hookup but without the phone. Dealer tells me that motorola is not supporting the startac anymore so can't use the hookup. Anyone have any info re this? Also, how does the Brabus exhaust sound on this rocket?

My mother had the Motorola Star-Tac phone installed on her 1999 E430, and it cost like $1,000 for the phone. The dealer referred her to a guy on the outside. It mounts in the care somewhere, and allows you to talk hands free, etc.

The phone has the Mercedes symbol on it.

I just got a new Motorola phone from Verizon. Cost me $99.00, and it is the exact same phone!

My advice is to go out and buy the Motorola Star Tac phone, and go to a shop that installs cell phones. I'm sure they could do it.

I have an MB digital startac, my ex girlfriend gave me from her 99 or 2000 slk she used to have before it got flipped at full speed.

I'm not sure if it will work for you, but I'd be more than happy to sell it to youf or a decent price...

E-mail me if you need any info off the phone to see if ti works. I have the phone plus a battery, not wall charger or anything else.

Phone has a sticker on the inside stating model: Q6829537

Checkw ith your dealer to see if that is the phone. if so, Contact me and we can arrange something.

I hope she's ok. I didn't know your ex flipped her Mercedes.

She had the accident before we met. I do know her hearing in one ear is slightly damaged and she has some scarring from it, but overall she survived and was not badly hurt. If she had been in most other cars, she would have been dead, or a vegetable.

She now drives a BMW 330CI Convertible. She wont drive another mercedes, she feels unsafe in them. Of course I'm sure most people would when you flipped the thing at over 125 mph...

StarTac compatability with home carrier

One thing you have to watch out for on the MB/Motorola StarTac is compatability with your cell service provider.
There are 2 basic types of StarTacs that MB uses, CDMA or TDMA, they both use an analog back-up. There are also several subtypes, depending on the particular carrier. You may end up buying a phone that is essentially useless due to incompatability with your carrier, or at best having to switch carriers, assuming they operate in your area and at the correct protocol. The same carrier may even operate at different protocols in different areas of the nation.

Star-Tac

Want to thank you all for the valuable information. Sounds like I would be better served just to stick with my own phone and let the MB system alone.
