Pretty cool old color pictures released...

Main Street in the 40s: Rare colour photographs capture the cafes, general stores and corner shops that were the heartbeat of small town America | Mail Online

Looking at those old color pictures, I'm really struck by how much the little borough that we live in looks like some of the pictures. This place hasn't aged in decades...it's the town that time forgot.

Theirs small towns in Texas that are vacuumed in time due to hwys bypassing them for cost effectiveness .Same was true with early railroads missing towns and growth slash progress went elsewhere.Theirs such a town as the photos show in Texas ,Ill try to find its name in my records .I visited this place one sunday while on a road trip ,it had a town sq about the size of 3 football fields with the courthouse out the farend, after walking around that early morning drinking my coffee I realized how I was the only one out on a brisk nov morning exploring the history right in frt of me,an old gas station still had old signs and Id taken one photo with my trusty 300d pulled up for gas at a non working old pump to commerate the oldness goodness .As I was leaving I thought what a great place for a small budget movie to take place.MOUNT VERNON TEXAS

Great photos. While there aren't any crowd scenes really, notice how nobody's fat?

Was in Vancouver recently and there are lots of stores which line the streets similar to the ones in the pictures. Real stores with real products, not coffee shops. I was wondering the extent to which the fact that Vancouver has no expressways continues to make these kinds of stores viable? Expressways push development around the exits and at malls close by. If all you have are city streets, stores continue to exist on those streets.

Cool pics.

In regards to elchivito: When I harken back to high school (which was late 80's) we were fatty-free.

Now I see 15 yr old plumpers all the time.
