Of course there is the "fight or flight" syndrome. Either run away from your property (business or home) or stand your ground and fight but don't fight too hard or use more than one shot to halt a threat or you may then be considered "an executioner". Robbers have rights.

The Oklahoma City pharmacist had set up a pharmacy in a poor underserved neighborhood so that the have nots could have easy and ready access to pharmacy services. As a result of trying to help the have nots, he is now living the maxim "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished".

That was the worst (or best maybe) example of an abuse of "self defense". Shoots a kid, walks away, comes back and repeatedly shoots the downed kid again. I'm glad the SOB is going away. The purpose of self defense is to neutralize a threat. He murdered that kid after having neutralized the threat as far as I'm concerned. This kind of incident inflames the anti-gun crowd and casts responsible gun owners in a negative light.

Unless the pharmacist had received extensive training in use of a firearm in a robbery situation, his actions were keeping with the "fight or flight" syndrome. Did the pharmacist know that there were only TWO robber? Perhaps twenty more gang bangers may have been on there way to assist ARMED robbers #1 and #2 in taking out the pharmacist and his co-workers. Remember, if confronted by two or more ARMED intent-on-harming-you thugs, you are allowed to only shoot them ONCE, so make it count!

I guess he'da been justified in shooting all the customers in the store too in case they might have been cleverly disguised bad guys just waiting to come to the aid of the one who ran off and the one bleeding out on the floor.

As I stated previously, his real crime was setting up a pharmacy to serve the needs of the local downers and outers. Since the local neighborhood gangs only know how to deal illegal or in this case, STOLEN legal drugs, his neighborhood pharmacy was seen as a "supplier". Since his pharmacy stocks pain meds, the gangs are obviously willing to commit armed robbery to keep their local dealers supplied.

When you set up a high profile legal drug dealing business like a pharmacy in an illegal drug dealing infested neighborhood, best to hire six or more ARMED security guards to protect the stash. Or, my advice is to never place a pharmacy in Loserville to begin with.

Deception works. depending upon the amount of $$$$ involved, a gang might be willing to try ANYTHING to get their mitts on the stash. I recently saw a show on Spike TV where they showed that it is believed as many as 10,000 service men and women in the armed services of the United States have gang affiliations. The gangs feel that the military offers the best training money can buy on how to engage in an armed conflict, so they join up and upon discharge, return home and teach their homies how to REALLY go to war. The TV special showed several incidents involving ex-military gang bangers involved in confrontations with the cops. In some of the cases presented, the cops didn't stand a chance. We aren't talking untrained unorganized gangs anymore, we are talking about gangs who have made the decision to step up their game to a professional level. Of course, if you find yourself in the unenviable position of having to defend yourself, your family or your property against these pros, be sure and remember to shoot them only ONCE.

And, we can all rest easy knowing that the gangs will follow the same rules........
