Advice on a SECURITY system

I'm looking for advice on which type of alarm system for the house and shop. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would get a monthly monitored system. I had ADT and had one or two false alarms but overall good protection. They monitored for break ins, fire and medical emergencies.

Get motion, door/window movement, glass breakage and audio/HD video at work. Get motion and door/window movement at home. Get a keypad in the master bedroom and the front door and see if the business alarm can report to the home keypads as well.

They have smart phone monitoring apps too.

A black one lives a few blocks from me. When I'm out running I can hear the car coming down the road -- "squeak, squeak, squeak!!". Damn things needs bushings replaced, common on those cars. Other than that, looks pretty cool.

I have a GE system in the house and another in the garage. Land line phone with cell back up. I also have a multi-camera DVR system with night vision that records all motion sources and is retreivable/monitorable from the internet.

Finally, there are multiple signs in the yard that remind people of the monitoring technology.

Install yourself? For cheap? Not an 8 series.

Keep an eye on woot.com, they often have security systems for really cheap. Member Compu_85 caught a car accident outside his house with one recently and posted it on here. Damning evidence.

Talos DS4045 4-Bullet Surveillance System with 500GB HDD 334-218 is a decent camera system to use.

Honestly...ADT would be better in the long run for the alarm, and should net you a discount with your insurance company. You could build a system to suit your needs through PartsExpress...I did that on a garage in the past, you now need a key to turn off the system prior to opening the garage door or window.

Are break-ins the norm there, or is it something that recently started?

It's a recent thing. In the past I have forgotten to lock the shop many times and never had a problem.
