The above 240 DL wagon is already sold!

(Although I suppose nothing is final until it actually drives away.)

Subaru's have bloated tremendously. The Forester used to be a nice, smaller wagon but now is the size of most small SUV's and just as tall. It's a shame that they decided they had to put AWD in every vehicle, too. FWD would work just fine for most folks. I was interested in a new one (based on the old, smaller ones) for one of my reps. until I went to look at them. The fuel mileage isn't any better than the minivan she's currently driving. I can't help but think the mileage would be better minus the weight and drag of the additional running gear, never mind the excess weight they're hauling around due to the increased size.

wow, I was going to write a big post about how ridiculous that price was for a over 200k car of that type, but she proved me wrong!

that only happens every now and then. Personally, ive only flipped mine 4 or 5 times.

in all reality, id put their roll over tendency at around the same as a wrangler.

I was thinking the same! With the exception of the lower rubber molding it really did look near-new. The guy was super finicky. I guess Volvo wagon sellers/buyers are as whacky as 300TD sellers/buyers!

I would so take your advise if it wasn't for the fact that I have been raising kids in the country for the past 18 years and you can't even find a suitable mate, much less procreate, in your utopian city! If I had your lifestyle I wouldn't even own a car. However that is not the case, so save your anti suv scorn for one of your fragile DINK eco poser city friends. FYI- kids take MORE room as they get older, as well as more time and more money. We also carpool with other kids on the teams to save fuel. I really don't need to justify my needs to you, but I kinda resent your constantly telling me I need to live like you do, and it is starting to piss me off. Do me a favor and don't reply to my postings unless you have something to add without insulting me or my family. I will freely admit you have some good points on certain things, but that doesn't give you the right to disparage anyone.

Firstly - I have no strong desire to procreate and find the DINK lifestyle very appealing. Sadly, most women my age actually want kids, which is one of many reasons why I realized I should look for someone quite a bit older, ideally childless by choice. I'm looking for a lover, not for a uterus with legs and a face.

Secondly - my scorn of SUVs isn't only based on environmental considerations. It's also based on the fact that driving an SUV or cute-ute feels like you're driving a g-d damned UPS truck. And they've pushed many vehicles that are both fun to drive and practical out of the US market. Read: car-based wagons that aren't jacked up to look like the trucks they're not. (Though the pendulum seems to be slowly swinging the other way.)

Since when is happiness contingent on having kids?

The wagon quest though is a noble adventure. I settled on a benz for mine and now have it home here trying to figure what is my next step.

IMO, the coolest family minivan ever made. a brick of an Astro, factory painted like an A-team van, a high output 4.3 v6, optional 5-speed, rack and pinion, high acceleration ratio diff, ect ect. All the performance crap that Chevy had in the bag in the early 90s, they bolted to this minivan to make the RS version.

Those vans are tough, my oldest son drove one literally to the doors actually fell off. The van was still running when it was junked.

it was fashionable back in the 70s for NYC couples to not have children, sounds like you are doing the same thing. For example, I have several sets of god parents who did this, while my parents decided to have them. 3 couples living in NYC, and my parents moved out, had kids, moved on, while their friends continued living the life they were accustomed to, and with an ironic sense of smug superiority, as if NOT having children was some kind of better act, and they were somehow smarter than others.

IMO, a lifetime of happiness IS contingent on having children. The one thing I would never want is to be old, and completely alone after having lost my mate, or the opposite, her being alone having lost me. Remember, every marriage or committed relationship ends in death or divorce. Its only in the movies where the happy couple lives happily ever after. Typically one person dies WAY before the other. Is that what you want looking for a much older woman? to lose her early?

I use the example of both sets of my godparents, who both decided they didn't want children for reasons of their own, and now both regret making that decision, now that they are in their 60s-70s. They voluntarily cut out a huge part of the human experience, every little thing that has to do with raising a family and sending them off into the world.

Another point I will raise is that silly selfish or petulant behavior in an adult can get rubbed away by having children, while the opposite happens when one has no offspring. My godfather in particular reminds me often of a little boy in his peevish discontent of silly matters.

I think you become a bigger person honestly, you start worrying about other people and things than yourself.
