seems to me like she may have violated something like 2 very common polices personally. Firing her was a good move.
1. She was there alone at closing. 2. She went and opened the locked door while performing closing duties. Both of these mistakes she made after being warned, and especially after the place had already been robbed 3 times in the last 6 months! So she was knowingly violating safety and security regulations with plenty of reason to both observe them, and protect herself. If I were Arbys, id have to be seriously thinking she could be involved in the prior 3 robberies, and id be pissed that after giving her multiple tries to amend her behavior in an assistant manager role, she continued to defy pretty standard and simple safety and security rules. Either that, or who knows what shes doing there late at night, unauthorized people could be coming by and hanging out with her, ect. This is exactly the kind of lax behavior that promotes robberies in the first place. Id have to believe if she weren't involved, that her observable security violations made it easier to target that particular business for repeated robberies. Does not sound like a reason to ban a business from your eatery list. Foodwise, i think of Arby's as pretty standard fast food, neither here no there, kinda the same level. Sometimes you just get an itch to eat some fast food, and arby's chicken strips and cholesterol sauce are pretty good IMO.

This was in Texas, right? Couldn't they pay for their late-night employees to take a gun-safety course and buy them a .45?

Question. What you are suggesting costs money. How many would be willing to pay more for it? Your PERSONAL security is well, personal. Your concern. You cannot expect a fast food restaurant to hire security guards and still make the food as cheap. Well, when there are idiots, there will be those that prey on them. It is that simple. The lion goes for the weakest target and not the fastest or strongest.

So enlighten us on what the employee think is with regards to the company. I hear what you are saying but why do you expect more caring from the company than what the employees are willing and able to offer? Do you believe this fine individual considered this job as anything more than a means to an end? I wouldn't. If I think that, why would I expect the company to consider me as more than that? Fair is fair.

I may have misread the article. I thought they canned her because she ran out. I thought bats what I read in another piece.

Once upon a time and in another life, I worked for a restaurant that recognized security issues. They brought in the police to show them how to implement store security for both patrons and employees. Some thirty years later, I have yet to hear of any of their restaurants being the subject of a robbery. So, it is doable, it is just that most restaurant management teams do not make security a priority. Neither do most other businesses. That is why we hear on the news time and again about some business getting shot up, either by outsiders or employees. Going out in public is becoming more and more risky for both you and your family because most businesses do not care nor implement ANY security measures. They want you to come in and spend $$$$ but they don't want to spend any $$$$ to see that your shopping or dining experience is SAFE. So, knowing that, and knowing that most take out food isn't fit to feed an animal, I eat at home. |

It is doable unless you insist on keeping dead wood that cannot and/or will not follow instructions. When you and the masses are willing to pay for that security, you can ask for it.

That's the problem. You want the food cheap so there are no frills. That means we can't afford to hire a $200K a year chef to prepare your meals, security to walk you to and from your car, waiter to serve you, etc, etc. You asked for the food with no real service, you got. They hired the minimum help they need because it is impossible to give you the maximum for the minimum price. Still that doesn't stop people from asking. Think of it as part of our entitlement mentality. It is the duty of the agency to provide $500 worth of product for $5. Not happening. It chafes me to no end when people seem to think that just because I am a business I owe you something for nothing.

Besides the violations, this girl should have been fired for stupidity too. That is what I would have done. Lets see, there have been 2 past incidences and you simply opened the door because you thought it was the guy you let go home? Never thought to ask who it is? And then after that you grumble about a lack o security cameras, etc, etc? WTF? You are a goddamned moron and a waste of sperm. If you cannot even play the Knock Knock game as ask "Who's there?", even if I had a camera there, you'd probably let the guy in without looking. If Arby's did anything wrong it is to promote this idiot to Asst Mgr with store closing duties.
