North East: Who should pay to rebuild it?

Now that the storm is past and MS said we should get back to arguing politics.... Lets get to it.

I live in DFW, not in NYC or anywhere else affected by the storm. Should my tax dollars go to help rebuild the North East? Personally I say yes. The damage in NY alone is pegged at $20B. NY can't afford that. Insurance companies are not going to shoulder all of it. Is this not a form of socialism? I do not see a problem with it. I guess we could just let NY and the rest of the NE just fend for them selves but that does not seem like it would be in our self interest.

And how much have we paid to rebuild Nawlins (pestilential misplaced floodbowl), the Mississippi coast, or East Texas?

Though personally, I'd be for Northeastern secession moving forward. After the rest of the country pays back the tax money it stole from us, of course. We can live without the neocon, anti-progressive turds that seem to infest Southern and especially Midwestern poly-ticks.

Do like Obama did to the GOP states in the BP issue.

It will be in our best longterm interest to help with the rebuild but it does raise interesting questions. Will the area need to become the new Amsterdam? If the seas continue to slowly rise, and storms like this become more common, could be some hard decisions ahead.

Well, time to slash the throats of the oil cartels like the disgusting swine that they are. Tax them into bankruptcy and starvation. Fund a hundred thousand Solyndras, and see which new technologies stick. Then print money if needed to deploy those technologies.

Time for the US to become a guiding light in the fight against global warming, rather than the laughingstock of the civilized world. As far as hurting our competitiveness against China, we could send them back to the Stone Age tomorrow by placing a 200% tariff on their products. And should. If the US is developing in other ways, our economy can survive without selling the average prole an iAndroidpad geewgaw every year.

Technology marches on. Economies adapt. I'm sure some areas were good at making buggy whips and typewriters once upon a time.

Yeah, all the transplanted New Yorkers that moved down here to get away from your state's ridiculous tax structure, and have since made a general nuisance of themselves.

Well, maybe we raised the average IQ of North Carolina 20 points Sounds like a match made in heaven. If my taxes pay for culture, good public transport, a decent educational system, fairly inexpensive public higher education, etc, I'm happy to pay them. There's a reason why people tend to say "I'm moving to {NYC, Boston, SF, Austin, DC, etc} after college," rather than "I'm moving to Jerkwater after I graduate."

And lastly, if I wanted an inexpensive small town experience, there are plenty of small university towns in New England, all of which are preferable to living down South.

The people of the United States should help pay for this. We are all in this together.

We're talking natural disaster/act of gawd, beyond human control. No question, it would be the charitable civilized thing to do - as we've done for other areas of the country, and other countries as well, following such disasters. Not to mention the contribution to the country's overall economy made by that area, it would be nonsensical in the financial long-term to not assist and get it back on it's feet as soon as reasonably possible.

I'm in favor of ReBuilding anywhere Coastal...

BUT,NOT the Idiocy of "Beachfront" as has gone on for the last 100 years.
(When was the last time the Low Countries Flooded?)

BUT,You'll have to elevate the residence above the 3rd story, with the bottom Two stories anchored to bedrock
AND 250 MPH proof !(ANYTHING below the Third story is ONLY Underpinnings and Support.)

____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______

AND,AND,AND the Last group of Idiots you want involved in Coastal Zone
Protection is the (Alleged) U.S.Army "Corps of Engineers"
[They're NOT Engineers,They ARE Piss Poor Construction Manager Wannabees.]

_________________________________________________________________

"If you're gonna Inhabit Sand Dunes (ALL of the CONUS East Coast),
you're NOT entitled to WHINE about 175 MPH winds or 40 Ft. Tidal Surges; WHATEVER the cause."

Hell,"We ALL" already PAY for rebuilding through the National Flood Insurance
Program.

A "Start" on the Problem:

1.Newer and Much More Restrictive construction codes, Nationwide.
2.If you build in "Possible Counter-Rotating Subject Area" ,You must sign Waivers.
3.Excess Flood Insurance, Mandatory.
4.Uber Excess Homeowner's Insurance. (SAME,SAME for Businesses)

_________________________________________________________________

Firm Rule here:
On the Road Northwestward Bound BEFORE the "Evacuation" suggestions start.
AND don't stop until you're North of Chattanooga.

How much of the bill will be paid by insurance Companies?
Don't be so quick to open the public purse, until the need is established.

The answer to the title question is OBVIOUS! Obama will pay for it.......... with YOUR money! He, of course, will try to make the recipients think that he is doing it with HIS money in the same way he has been fooling his followers for many years now.
