Something I remember

All of the news, blogs, threads, etc. that I have heard about this country before and after the election reminded something that I was once told. I am not trying to make any claims, but just share something that I was told years ago by a long passed friend that was a pastor and history teacher. This friend once told me that no country and has a form of government last more that 200 years in it original intended form.... i.e. change is inevitable. Your thoughts......

Hell, no country remains as originally intended after day 1.

This government has changed since its inception. What do you believe hasn't changed?

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”
It was a good run.

Yes, I've heard that before albeit not with the exact number of 200 years. Our type of government and our society is somewhat similar to the Roman Empire. I don't know exactly how many years that one lasted, but there are most definitely parallels between the beginning of its fall and our current situation.

Well... we got the government part, and the UFC part, now all we need is some shiny, new, made-in-china lead water pipes and we'll be all set.
