when you think you are having a bad day...

along comes someone else with a problem that makes you feel sheepish.

Today at lunch one of my friends who is about 70 said he had something serious to tell us. (He said this because he is an incorregable wise acre).

We all got quiet and he said that his 29 year old grandson had committed suicide. The kid had some issues, ADD, I believe he said, and had started taking some meds for it that really messed the kids head. He thought the CIA was after him, I believe was one of the things.

Anyway he barricaded himself in the shed in the back yard where he had a kindof mancave with his computer and so forth and did the deed. His father missed him after a while and broke in and found him.

It just doesn't get much worse than that.

That's awful.

I still hear folks here complaining that they were out of power for a few days. The fact that there are people less than 50 miles away who lost everything they own never enters their mind before the words leave their mouths.

Regardless how bad things may seem, it's usually pretty easy to find someone, somewhere who is worse off.

The first step, however, is to manage to get your eyes off yourself.

My sympathies to your friend and his family. That's the sort of thing that colors a family for years.

I could see him giving up on life.

I hope not.

It happens. My best friend died of cancer a few years ago, and now another business associate of mine is fighting it.

Puts our daily little issues into perspective.

My father found my younger brother back in the field behind the house. He managed to shoot himself........ he was only 17.

That was back in 1975 and dad never got over it. None of us really talked about it because it was so painful. When I was fighting cancer, 30 years later, a lot of these supressed feelings came to the surface and then I realsed that it wasn't my fault. It was no ones fault, not that you feel that way about it when it happens to somone close to you.

Awful thing to go through. I hope your friend sees better days ahead.
