Your point?

People join a group to better themselves. When they do, the group expects something in return for their support. This means you will espouse whatever I say you espouse or I cut funding off. It is that simple. Just because I am Republican doesn't mean I personally believe and practice everything that they say. I join the Republican party because I think they give me the best chance of financial success. The price I have to pay for that is to regurgitate whatever they tell me I have to. If you are anti-union and/or anti-gay and you join the Democrats, do you believe you will be able to voice out your opinions? Sure, you can but you might notice a reduction in funds or be punished some other way.

The two party system can work as well as a 5 party system. It is like communism. It too can work. The MAJOR problem with both systems is that there are human beings involved in it. That causes the failure. What will 5 parties do? Either way, they work under the same constraints and what not so how would it be better? Now you have a choice of 5 McDonnalds instead of 2. Well, big deal.

Good little soviet, let's go to the state store and buy some state-approved jammies.

Oh wait, I like a large selection in the market even though all jammies have essentially the same constraints.

So you like the illusion of choice? I prefer meaningful choice myself.

It's elusive. You embrace the illusion of no illusions.

Without getting too philosophical, I don't really get excited about a choice when there is little meaningful difference. Right now, I get to choose between a Demopublican and a Republicrat. Make it a 3 way and it becomes a race between 3 idiots with different flags. 4 way? See above. What is there to get excited about?

There's always the chance that with a wider field to choose from, there's an increased chance of having a non-idiot candidate. Or at least having an idiot that shares more of your beliefs than the other idiots.

You make the assumption ( at least I assume you do....) that more parties will mean more real choices.
If all candidates' support is traced back to the same single source, what difference does it make if there are 2, or 5 or 25 "Apparent" choices?

How do you win a horse race?---Simply own ALL the horses.

Would you not agree that the perception one has of the degree of choice is a subjective quality? If that is true than your observation is no more or less valid than anybody else'.

I'd rather have 2 choices of bananas than 1.

I'd rather have 3 than 2.

It'd rather have 4 than 3.

Repeat.

I recognize they are all bananas.
