But keep looking on Autotrader, Craigslist, and ebay, and even let a few Mercedes Benz dealers like Park Place ect know exactly what you are looking for, a really clean fairly low mile example of a trade in that comes in, and have the salesman put your name/phone/email in his rolodex, and tell him you'll do cash.

Don't despair and don't be in a hurry, good ones are still out there.

Same advice still applies to them: Buy the best condition one you can afford even if it costs more, the cheapest older Mercedes Benz usually turns out to be the most expensive in the end.

The w124 Mercedes Benz cars are a sensational car for all reasons and seasons.

There are indeed some good cars out there still. There are people that bought them new and have driven them very little and kept them in the garage. Be dilligent and you can find a good example.

Here's one right now. Looks like it might have a rear window factory sunshade. If yes that would be a very rare option. Been run about 10k per year, since new, which is under the national and California average. 040 Black/palomino is a nice combo, too. But the plates are from about 4 years ago, for sure not the originals. If the maintenance booklet is still there I would check the stamps; if not, then go to your MB dealer's parts/servce dept and ask them to decode the VMI for the original selling dealer, any dealer sevice history and warranty claims, coded numerically by dmg ("damage") code. It is MB proprietary info but often you can still get it if you are lucky.

It is the heart of Silicon Valley and the biotech area now. You would not recognize the face of Mountain View now. There restaurants specializing in cuisine from India and Korea all over the place there, connect the dots.

Decent house in a good neighborhood runs about 950 - to a million five nowadays.

It is pretty prosperous, considered relatively liberal, somewhat ethnically diverse, and fairly well educated residents overall, totally unaffected by the recession, and Obama mined it very successfully for millions of campaign re election dollars.

South of Mountain View, the next town is Sunnyvale, where my barn find 1968 Cougar with 39k original miles was originally sold new, at Paps L/M was discovered, and the town below that was Santa Clara where ex wifey lives, and where I saw drove and bought the car.

nice looking car. good price, seemingly. the one here was $3500.00

*IF* (and it's a pretty big IF with a used Mecedes - like this) it checked out, and had a good bill of health.

I am guessing that safe, insured, covered transportation from just south of San Francisco Texas - or driving it there yourself, would probably run from $800 - $1,000 or so.

That would make it something less of a bargain, but perhaps still a good long term car to keep..

Just curious as to how many miles the car had on it for the owner to be asking $3,500. Also, do you know if it dealer was serviced?
I'm not thinking of selling mine, but now that it's a weekend knockaround, I'm thinking of dropping collision on it. Mine has 134,500, and I have all records since 2001. Most of the drive train work has been done at the dealer.
I figure 3500-4500 is it's realistic price range. (I got about that much in it in 2011 )
