Our Lord and Savior

Can this be a Separation of Church and State issue?

Did everyone hear about the Highway Patrolman that had to stop Obama? The patrolman walked up to the door of the limo and asked for the drivers license. About that time Obama stepped out and irritatingly asked the Patrolman "Do you know who I am?" The patrolman's jaw dropped and he said; "Oh my God!" To that, Obama replied;
"That's close enough! Let's go driver!"

Since Foxx is not an elected official and was not speaking on behalf of the state I would have to say this does not violate the COTUS in any way shape or form.

Given that Foxx is a comedian I would bet there was more too this than the 30 second clip I was able to find showing his comment. If Foxx actually meant what he said he is an idiot along with all the other religious nut jobs out there.

Seems they reflect the general population. Seems like only a small percentage of people have even a basic understanding of our government.

Comics, as well as the arts tend to lead social changes. They do not reflect what is--they push the envelop.

In the Episcopal Church the leaders of the country are prayed for every Sunday.

Also the leaders of the community.

This has been the case for at least 237 years. The G. W. Bush administration launched an IRS investigation against the Church in 2005. The Church made it clear that under no circumstances did they intend to do anything differently.

After a few years the IRS dropped their investigation. The IRS never said why.

This did seem to me to be a Church/State matter, but perhaps they were Grandfathered in. Or maybe it was because more Presidents of the US have been Episcopalians than any other faith.

I believe you have the "wall" concept backwards. The separation between church and State was originally intended to prevent the State from establishing an official Church, and the prevent the State from interfering in church matters.
Christians from all denominations pray daily and weekly for their political leaders as they are instructed to do in the Bible--that they might live peaceable lives.

I certainly agree with this. There are even people on this forum who don't understand that congress has an influence on the budget.

To understand the Church & State issue, you have to understand what was on the minds of the Founding Fathers. The Church of England was one of the things they were leaving behind when they came to America. They did not want to see a rerun of that one.

Governments running churches is not a good thing. Of course MANY of us understand that government running almost ANYTHING is a route to eventual disaster.

BTW, Churches praying for the leaders of the country and the community is NOT limited to the Episcopalians. It also is NOT a violation of the separation of Church & State. The separation of Church & State was intended to protect the Church from the State, not to protect the State from the Church.

If you want to see a country where the government/church it tightly intermingled all you have to do is look at Saudi Arabia.
